the website takes a lot of time to load in the backend/frontend after activating WPML, it's really weird whenever I activate the WPML website in the backend and the frontend becomes slow once I deactivate it everything seems fine, and this problem gives us a tough time to use the Plugin. need help from you guys to fix the issue.

Thanks in advance

Hi Fiona,

Thank you for contacting WPML support, I'd be happy to help you with this issue.

In the frontend, I switch to the second language Chinese, and see the loading speed is good. Please check this screenshot hidden link

If it takes more time to load in the admin area, please follow the next steps and let me know how it goes:

Please make a backup before proceeding.
1) Install the Query Monitor plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/query-monitor/).
2) Check the load time and the number of queries in the top bar. Load time has "s" and queries “Q”.
3) Disable all WPML plugins and check load time and the number of queries.
4) Disable all other plugins and leave active only WPML plugins, switch to a WordPress default theme. Check again.
Please let me know how it goes and shares each result with me and read more on the documentation https://wpml.org/tutorials/2019/10/analyze-performance-issues-with-query-monitor/

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Thanks for your response.
well, the loading speed is bad in both languages with WPML not in the Chinese version only. and whenever we deactivate the WPML we get a good and smooth speed on our website both back and frontend. also, i followed your guidelines about adding the Query Monitor plugin, so i have attached the screenshots of what I get with/without/only WPML. Please see the attached screenshot and i have added the situation in the image name. i hope you got it

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I see some Slow Queries after activating WPML and other plugins. Please click on that line and share some screenshots of slow queries.
Then you can deactivate/activate other plugins one-by-one with WPML activated and find what causes the issue.
❌ IMPORTANT: Please backup your database and website before proceeding ❌

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hey, Thanks for your reply.
well I have a few questions about your response, "I see some Slow Queries after activating WPML and other plugins" What do you mean by this? did you mean to say you saw the slow queries while having all the plugins activated or something else?

another question is about your second response where you said "Then you can deactivate/activate other plugins one-by-one with WPML activated and find what causes the issue." so basically I will have to deactivate all the plugins except WPML and then i need to activate other plugins one by one to find out the problem right? well in this case will "query monitor" plugins going to help ? like how am i going to identify? and i can see the query monitor plugin gives new data on every load and it doesn't stick to one. and all i can see that whenever i activate the WPML website's frontend and backend get's slow in a horrible way.

looking forward to your response
Thanks in advance

Hi,

Yes, there are some slow queries in your screenshot: hidden link

To move it forward, I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to have a testing site where the issue is replicated. Your next reply is set to private to share the info.

❌ IMPORTANT: Please backup your database and website before proceeding ❌
You can use this plugin to create the backup: https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
✙ I would need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme to change configurations on the site if needed. This is also a reason the backup is critical.

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi,

Can you please check if the performance on your site is better?
Admin area: hidden link
Frontend (shop page): hidden link

What I've done:
- Go to WPML > Settings > Post Types Translation > Set Products to "Translatable - only show translated items".
- Go to Products page > Disable Languages option in the Screen Options.

As you can see on your screenshots, with only WPML activated, it doesn’t significantly impact the speed or performance of your website. The truth is, every plugin you install and any line of code you add will increase page loading times.

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hey, Thanks for getting back to me.
well, performance is kind of better but not good cause whenever we deactivate WPML we get an impressive change in speed on both the back and frontend.

" - Go to WPML > Settings > Post Types Translation > Set Products to "Translatable - only show translated items"." what does this mean? what will it do? Is it going to show only translated items in chainese version or english ?

"As you can see on your screenshots, with only WPML activated, it doesn’t significantly impact the speed or performance of your website. The truth is, every plugin you install and any line of code you add will increase page loading times." Sir on the screenshot i can see not only WPML but other plugins are active too, and i am kind of not agree with your opinion that all the other plugins will increase load time cause i can only see the load time increases while we have the WPML activated not the other, so that means The WPML is the problem or any other plugin which is not compatible with WPML. so please help me to find that.

Thanks
Looking forward to your reply

Hi,

>> what does this mean? what will it do?
That means in the front end, only translated products will be displayed in Chinese language.

Regarding the performance issue, I'm trying to take a backup of your site and restore it on my local site and investigate the issue further. I will update you here when I have any information.

Thanks.

I am sorry but I need all of my products to be displayed even if it's not translated into Chinese so please change the settings to the previous version. and please let me know what you have found after your investigation is done.

Looking forward to your update

Hi,

After testing again on my demo site, I see that (load time "s" and queries "Q"):

- All plugins activated: 3.01s - 895Q
- Deactivate WPML: 2.31s - 690Q
- Only WPML and WooCommerce activate: 1.71s - 369Q

After deactivating all plugins except WPML plugins and re-activating them one-by-one, I see each plugin activated will increase the loading time and queries a little bit. And it turns out that, after activating the plugin "WooCommerce Vehicle Parts Finder - Year/Make/Model/Engine/Category/Keyword" the number of queries increased by around ~300.

- All plugins activated except "WooCommerce Vehicle Parts Finder - Year/Make/Model/Engine/Category/Keyword": 2.86s - 606Q

You can see the results in the list of screenshots hidden link

I also set the translation preference of product post type back to display if not translated as before.

Regards.

Currently i am looking at the points you have made, but on the website I can't find any blog in the Chinese version, i think you have changed the settings on WPML to not display. please change the settings to display everything even if it's not translated as I said previously.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

As I mentioned above https://wpml.org/forums/topic/website-takes-a-lot-of-time-to-load-in-backend-frontend-after-activating-wpml/#post-14408993

I do not touch the translation preference of the post, just the product. We can handle one issue per ticket only so I will split your new issue with translation posts into another ticket.

Thanks.
