This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: You are trying to enable the WP Editor role (WPML Translator) to translate posts on your site, but they are not authorized to do so despite having the appropriate permissions. Solution: We recommend deactivating the "White Label CMS" plugin on your site. This plugin may be interfering with the permissions of the WP Editor role, preventing them from accessing the translation editor. After deactivating the plugin, please check if the WP Editor account can now open and use the translation editor as expected.
Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at our support forum.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Thanks for contacting WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.
Could you please check if the issue persists in a minimal environment by following these steps?
1- Deactivate all the plugins except WPML CMS.
2- Switch to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Twenty-one.
3- Create a new test editor account and set it as a translator.
4- Go to WPML-> Translation Management, and send a page to translation.
5- Try to translate it using the new test account.
If the issue is gone, activate them one by one to see which one is causing an interaction issue.
❌ Please backup your database before the above test ❌
1. Keep in mind that WPML behaved properly before last Thursday. I had a WP Editor with the requisite authorization (as a Translator in WPML). It suddenly stopped working.
2. This is a production website, if I do what you ask I would have to effectively shut the website down, especially if I switch themes. That is not very realistic
Can't you do anything else? I can give you access to the website as an 1) Admin and a 2) Editor role.
Thanks for your reply. I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.
Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.
❌ Please backup your database and website ❌
✙ I need your permission to deactivate and reactivate the plugins and themes and change site configurations. This is also why the backup is critical.
✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.
Thanks for the access details. I installed a local copy and found that when deactivating the "White Label CMS" plugin, the editor account can open the translation editor correctly.
Please deactivate it on your site and check if the editor account works as expected.
You can use Google to search for a specific plugin compatibility with WPML. If the plugin is compatible, you will see a search result like this. (https://wpml.org/plugin/wp-user-manager/)
