Hi Kor

I have spent the last week adding directory listings and new posts, and the issue continued to occur. (i have not had the above issue happen to the couple posts I added but this time translated directory listings have the Language switcher not appearing for translated listings and in addition, when updating a Listing translation, I almost EVERY time now get a Server time out 524 error. I haven't seen this when performing any other tasks.

I have deactivated WP Rocket as suggested, and this did not change anything.

Again, if I deactivate Redis and then all works well, IF I first go through the WPML > Support > Troubleshoot > Clean up and click on the buttons you previously recommended.

The 524 error does not stop happening whether Redis or WP Rocket is off or not, it happens every time i translate a post using the WordPress editor and then clicking Update.

As I was getting 524 errors - I checked with our hosting provider, and they mentioned this:

Translation plugin cache issues might be related to:

Keys not expiring properly (only 260 keys across all databases have TTL set)
Application-level caching logic problems
Race conditions in cache invalidation

Can this be looked into further? It seems to point to Redis or WPML or both.

Hi Kor

I have had to disable the Redis cache as the previous problem was continuously causing "Posts" that we to be translated in the ATE to go to the Translation Queue and then constantly having to go through the steps of canceling job, flushing Redis, all the WPML clean up buttons etc
(it was just taking too much time and I have to get work done on this site).

So this issue is not quite Redis/WPML as per the title, but is stilll related to the previous issue as it included not displaying translated posts in the language switcher nor displaying them on the site.

I should have also noted that if we switch languages and then search for the Listings they do not appear on the site.
AND
Even after the time out, the translation is saved and when re-accessing through the wordpress editor, it can be viewed in the ATE and WP Editor in the translated langugaes, but just not on the frontend.

As far as giving access to the live site, is there another option? We really can't be deactivating plugins on the live site at present.

THIS issue of the 524 time outs when saving listings happens also on the staging site I created for the last issue.

Can you make a copy of the site, I think in the past WPML support have used Duplicator or another Plugin to do so.
I am asking as the last time I made a clone of the site we could not reproduce the problem even though everything should be a mirror image....that was probably because Redis was starting with an empty cache.

I am happy to give access to the staging site again, however, the 524 issue occurs but i cannot replicate the Language switcher issue. It may take alot of adding listings and translating etc

I can give access to the staging site (you can do whatever you want there 🙂 )

Let me know if there is another option for the live site.

I will also add another post this afternoon and see if there are still issues with that, if so i will add another video for you.

Thanks for your reply. Before we investigate further, please contact your hosting provider regarding the “524 time outs” issue. They should be able to check the server logs for the generated errors. Once you have them, please share the logs with me here.

Also, please provide access to your staging site and enable the debugging log as explained here: https://wpml.org/documentation/support/debugging-wpml/

For security and to prevent any potential data loss, ensure you have a full backup before proceeding. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) for this.

Thanks for your reply. I can replicate the issue following the steps below.

1. Edit the English language listing hidden link

2. Switch to WordPress Editor

3. Switch language to French and make minor edits.

4. Clicking on the publish button will show Error code 524 - A timeout occurred

I will check this further and will come back to you as quickly as possible.

Just checking did you install some plugins on our LIVE site?

WPIDE

I am asking as our site is not functioning since I checked this morning (could have been earlier), and I do not recognise these plugins?

Also, the WPIDE plugin is a file manager and code editor....so I am troubleshooting and a little concerned. I also have a devoloper that was doing some work and he may have added it but i cannot get in touch now as he is on US hours...

If you could let me know it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. While opening the report, I tested with WPML plugin deactivated and the Error code 524 - A timeout occurred issue persists. This doesn't seems to be related to WPML after all and you'll need to reach out to your hosting provider for further assistance. Here is what I've done.

1. Deactivated WPML plugin.

2. Edited this page hidden link

3. Clicked Update

4. Error code 524 - A timeout occurred shows as shown in the attached screenshot.
