I have my subdomains and domains setup properly on my website: hidden link
When visiting "Spanish (U.S)" - you are redirected to hidden link (This is good)
However, when reverting back to "English (U.S) [Default] - you are also redirect to hidden link - it even shows this in Inspect Element, when you should be brought back to the default hidden link
Notice that when logged into the es.ellasbubbles.com admin page, it thinks that "English" is hidden link. Similarly, when logged into the ellasbubbles.com admin page, the correct option is displayed

Regarding the domain per language setup in WPML > Languages > Language URL Format, it should always display the domain in the default language when you visit the admin area. Please check this screenshot hidden link
This was resolved and was actually caused by setting the WP_HOME as SERVER[Host] in wp-config.php
