Background of the issue:
I am trying to continue a conversation with support regarding an issue with saving pages in different languages using WPML. The issue we were trying to solve is detailed here: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/japan-translations-throw-error-not-resolved/. I need to save the page in any language when I edit some content inside or add a block, but it throws a JSON error. I was advised to make changes in the original language and translate using WPML editors. I am unsure about the process and the implications of using different editors.

Symptoms:
When I try to save a page in any language other than the default, it throws a JSON error, preventing me from saving it. Additionally, changes made directly in other languages are overridden when updating the default language/page using WPML editors.

Questions:
Can the previous support conversation be reopened for continuity?
What is the correct process for editing and saving pages in different languages using WPML?
Why are changes made directly in other languages overridden when updating the default language/page?
Can you provide a screenshot of what you mean by 'using WPML editors'?

Hello,

thanks for contacting us.

1) That was chat ticket and was closed, so we can not re open it.

2) Let us clear things first, you are translating via WPML editor and then editing the page manually and making changes there also or?

3) Where do you get JSON error? In default language or 2nd language?

Let me know.

Thanks,
Drazen

Hi there,

I select pages in Translation Management when I want to translate 1 Page in many languages at once, or many Pages at once..In some cases I go to WordPress > Pages and click on + icon to create translation ( e.g. to JA lang. but also DE lang. I did that this way ) = > there stands "Translate automatically" I hit "Complete Translation" and its done, but..Japan version was somehow created, but cannot be saved and seen in Preview coz. there is an error. - as you can see in the picture

This is the page where the JSON error is : hidden link

Hello,

1) Page should be translated from WPML editor and saved that way, if it is not, then there is issue and we should check.

2) If you are trying to edit page manually and add translation like that, then that is different issue.

If you disable the WPML plugins, and then go to the same page, can you click Update, does the same issue happen?

If you create a new test page in JP manually and then try to save does it work?

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello,

it would be best if you can provide a staging site, as we would need disable plugins/themes, check debug lug and etc, to check this issue further.

You can also provide copy of the website and we can check it like that:

Otherwise, if you prefer, you can start a new chat and refer to this ticket to my colleague and we can try to help like that, but I suspect this will take some time to debug.

Drazen
