Changelog
What’s new in Media Translation 5.0
This release speeds up several Media Translation screens and fixes a few long-standing filtering and notification issues.
Faster media screens
- Media translation screens load faster: duplicating media, warming attachment caches, and scanning posts for media now use batched queries instead of one-by-one lookups.
- Idle admin screens no longer trigger repeated background media scans; the scan now runs one batch per page load.
Media Translation dashboard fixes
- The status filter on the Media Translation screen now correctly filters attachments by their translation status.
- Filtering media by translation status no longer redirects you to the old Media page.
- The Media Translation setup link now takes you to the correct page.
Notifications
- Translation managers are notified again when a translation job is completed.
- The outdated “WPML Media database needs updating” message no longer appears.
Security
- This release includes security hardening.
Fixed in Media Translation 5.1.0
This release translates more of the images in your content and cleans up after deleted media translations.
Images in translated content
- Media referenced by a relative URL, or linked from an image, is translated and replaced in the translation in the form it was written in, including images used by Divi, Enfold and block backgrounds.
- After you replace a translated image, content showing a big image that WordPress scaled on upload no longer keeps the deleted file, and images keep their Large size instead of switching to the full-size file.
Deleting media translations
- Deleting or replacing a media translation deletes the files it leaves behind, including a scaled image’s original, and never deletes the original image’s own files.
Update or download
The update is available to all WPML clients with an active subscription — it appears on the Plugins page in your WordPress admin within 24 hours of release. You can also check for it right away under Plugins → Add New Plugin → Commercial. To download and install manually, go to Downloads in your wpml.org account (see the installation instructions) and remember to update all components together without mixing versions.
