This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing issues with custom fields using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) in a multilingual WordPress site. Although these fields are empty in the original Dutch version, the translated German version still displays old placeholder text. The client is questioning whether WPML should automatically clear the translated version when the original field is emptied.
Solution:
We explained that WPML does not automatically remove content from translated versions if the primary language content is deleted. To resolve this issue, we recommend manually deleting the German language translation of the page where the fields appear. After deletion, the client should retranslate the page to ensure that the translated version reflects the current state of the original page. This process will help synchronize the content correctly across different languages.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. If the issue persists, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If necessary, do not hesitate to open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.

Thanks, its working and could easily translate all products.

But still some issue with the template for example:

is translated to

hidden link

We have custom fields but these are empty in original, and should be empty in translated one.

But its showing some placeholder text, why is this and how to fix this?

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your reply. I’ve checked the German version of the product in the backend here:

Could you let me know why the “Features: Product page” section is in English? Where exactly did you enter this content previously? It shouldn’t appear on its own unless it was copied or carried over from another source.

Our original language is Dutch, and we don’t have any English pages active.

These fields are from ACF.
It seems that the German version is still showing placeholder text from these fields — text we had added earlier but have since removed.

However, when we delete the content from these ACF fields on the original Dutch page (leaving them empty), the translated versions (like German) are not being cleared automatically. So the old content remains visible on the translated pages.

Should WPML recognize that the original field is now empty and automatically clear the translated version as well?

Thanks for your reply. No, WPML will not remove the contents if the primary language is empty. What you can do is to permanently delete the German language translation page and then retranslate the page. Could you try?
