Background of the issue:
When I am using the WP admin backend of my site to make posts or edit pages, the admin language of the site will randomly change, typically from my preferred English to French, triggered by a new page load. I have unselected 'Set admin language as editing language' in my user profile. This issue has been ongoing for months and is reproducible on our staging site. At one point, after increasing our WordPress Memory Limit to 512MB, the issue seemed to go away for a few days but then returned. This is also happening to my colleagues who have admin powers. Another symptom is that when viewing Comments, even if we switch the language from English to French or vice versa, we have to apply a filter on the Comments to get comments in that language to appear. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link

Symptoms:
The admin language changes spontaneously but not consistently on page refreshes. Additionally, when viewing Comments, switching the language requires applying a filter to see comments in the selected language.

Here is a Loom video that demonstrates the issue: hidden link

In the 5 minutes, the issue only happens once. Watch from 2 min 45 sec to see the primary issue of the admin language switching, but the secondary issue of comments having to be filtered to see in the other language starts at about the 1 minute mark.

Questions:
Why does the admin language of my WP backend keep switching randomly?
How can I ensure that the admin language stays the same unless manually changed?
Why do I need to apply a filter to see comments in the selected language after switching languages?

Hi there,

We try to keep each ticket to 1 issue, regarding the comments issue please open a new thread and our team will be able to further assist.

I have reviewed the loom video as well as trying to reproduce this behavior on a new environment, but have not been successful yet.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to test the issue.
(preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible)

**Before we proceed It is necessary to take FULL BACKUP of your database and your website. Providing us with access, you agree that a backup has been taken **

I often use the Duplicator plugin for this purpose: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.
The information you enter is private which means only you and I have access to it.

NOTE: If access to the live site is not possible and the staging site does not exist please provide me with a duplicator package created with the duplicator plugin.

Thank you,
Bobby

Update: Just did some testing on our staging site to see if the admin language ALWAYS switches if the first action after logging in is to go to the Events page. The answer is NO. Today, the language switching issue seems to be happening more than yesterday when I made the first Loom issue. Sometimes, immediately after logging in, and then clicking to view the site Dashboard, the language switches to French. Other times, it takes a few clicks - moving between Resources, Events and Comments did the trick this time. Anyway, I think it is fair to say that I do not know a reliable way to consistently reproduce the issue.

Hello Bobby,

I just wanted to give you a heads up that a couple of our team members are planning on doing some testing on our staging site tomorrow morning, starting as early at 5 am EDT, and continuing until about noon. We'll be looking to see if we can remove the Edubin theme, that is causing us grief with the WPML ATE, as well as a host of styling issues.

Please feel free to use the staging site until 5 am EDT on Friday Oct 4 and make any changes required for your testing during that time period. If any of the changes you make result in the staging site becoming unusable, our team will likely need to take a fresh snapshot of the live site and resynch the staging site. Starting at 5 am EDT on Friday Oct 4 you are still welcome to log into the staging site and view what is going on, but please be warned that some things, and especially styling, might suddenly get very bad, and kindly don't change anything of substance in with the system.

We can provide you with an update as to the status of the staging site once we are done our work on Oct 4 and will let you know when it is available once again for your exclusive use.

My apologies for any issues this may cause you.

Might you be able to let us know approximately when you expect to, and/or would like to poke around on our staging site over the next week or so?

Thank you!

Hi there,

based on your previous feedback I have re-enabled the private field reply to share new access to the site or to update you for your team to take a new snapshot.

Once ready I will access the site and work through some tests.

Hello Bobby,

We *think* we have found the root cause of our WPML problems - the EduBin Theme we are using on our live site.

Currently, our staging site is using Kadence, and we have not been able to reproduce the error since switching it to that theme.

This admin language switching error has been intermittent in the past, so I am still not 100% convinced we have found the solution, but I am hoping that we have.

That being said, I don't think it is a worthwhile use of your time to investigate this issue until we have Edubin removed from our live site too and we can fully confirm that issue is resolved.

Please advise if we should close this ticket and re-open if necessary, or if we should keep it open and let you know once we have confirmed the issue is resolved.

Thanks!

Thank you for updating me!

You are welcome to leave it open (it will eventually close automatically after some time of no action from you or I ) and update me or if you do close it when you re-open a ticket you can simply ask for it to be assigned to me so you don't have to re-explain the issue 🙂

Thanks for the clarification. I will leave the ticket open, and hopefully when we complete our Edubin theme removal, I will be able to close it. If we still have issues after that, I will reach out on this thread.
