[Resolved] Translated page seems to revert to English when changes made
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: You are experiencing issues with translations reverting to English after making updates to your Privacy page, which has been translated into Spanish and French. The main concern is that the translation editor is not retaining the previous translations, forcing you to redo the work. Solution: We recommend switching the translation method of your page to use the Advanced Translation Editor. This tool should help maintain your translations even after making updates to the original language. Here's how you can switch: 1. Go to the page in the original language. 2. Select the option to use the Advanced Translation Editor. 3. Complete the translation for the French language using this editor. After you have switched to the Advanced Translation Editor, if the problem persists where updates to the English page cause loss of translations in other languages, please contact our support team for further assistance.
Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate a small change made to my Privacy page. The page has already been translated into Spanish and French, as seen in the live page URL: hidden link.
Symptoms:
After making a small change to the page in English (adding the bit about Cookies at the bottom), I went to translate the new content into Spanish and French. Most of the page isn't translated in the translation editor, and it's forcing me to redo the work if I want to save.
Questions:
Why is the translated page reverting to English after making changes?
How can I avoid redoing the translation work for small changes?
Thanks for contacting us. This shouldn't be happening and I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
Thanks for your reply. Could you please login using my access and check why I cannot edit the English Language Privacy Policy page as shown in the attached screenshot? Am I lack of full administrative access?
Thank you for your response. I'm not sure what changes were made, but the issue seems to have worsened—only 4 English pages are currently visible, whereas there should be 43. Could you please grant me full administrative access so I can investigate further?
I'm using a plugin to organize the media library so you're only seeing one folder of pages. Still weird though because when I login with the same credentials I see all of the folders (see screenshot). Can you confirm it's still not working? Hoping it was a temp glitch.
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I can view the pages now. Please grant me full administrative access as I'd like to deactivate 3rd party plugins for troubleshooting purposes.
I've checked, and it looks like you've configured this page hidden link as manual translation and not using the Advanced Translation Editor. Could you switch to Advanced Translation Editor and then complete the translation for the French language?
Then, I will try to replicate the issue by making small changes to the English language page, and we'll see if it removes the French translation.
