Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate a development website (hidden link) using WPML. I have experience translating over a hundred websites with WPML. I want to manually translate each page without automatic translation or other plugin features.
Symptoms:
When I update a German translated page (e.g., hidden link), it reverts to the Italian original content (hidden link). I am using the 'Obsolete' classic translation editor, but the problem persists on several pages.
Questions:
How can I manually translate each page without automatic translation?
Why do the German translated pages revert to the Italian original content after updates?
after the latest tests, we still had problems with the translation of the home page, especially in French and German: the translations were overwritten with the latest version of the original (Italian) home page whenever we 1) edited the IT version and then 2) edited a translation.
At the moment, the problem does not occur on other pages.
For the moment, we solved the issue by translating only the home page with WPML translator. All other pages are still translated with the default (WP, Avada) editor.
Before making any editing of the website, I kindly ask you to contact me at gerardo@idealab.ch.
Is it possible to test the following (either you can test this or let me know if it's okay for me to test). Disable the Classic Editor (just for testing - I'm trying to determine if there is a conflict happening). Then, create a new page and translate it, then edit it and let's see if the translations are overwritten again when you edit in Avada. Please either let me know the results or let me know if I have permission to test this.
Another thing to test, since it's not happening on other pages, is to use the plugin by Yoast to duplicate the page and then see if the issue is still occuring there.
Hello. Thanks: I will try these options and see what happens.
In general, is it safe if I use the WPML translator for the Home Page only, and then Avada Builder for all other elements? There might be a problem with future updates?
I tried cloning the home page with Yoast and using the WordPress editor.
Here is the new test page: hidden link
I cloned, selected the WordPress editor and I haven't seen any message to translate separately.
In this case, anytime I edit one text in Italian (such as the titles followed by "23"), the single string gets copied in French and German (while English is fine): hidden link hidden link
I then tried to test it without Avada editor, and the problem does not occur: hidden link hidden link hidden link hidden link
It looks to me that the conflict is between Avada and WPML. What do you think?
I imported the page layout and Avada options, to create the following page: hidden link
In this case, I can edit the page with the separated translation.
So, the problem might be with my WPML setup on hidden link. Do you think I could create a new setup from scratch and migrate the content?
If I make a new setup with the same languages, I can migrate WordPress pages with WP Exporter/Importer, and WPML accepts them as the correct translations?
Yes, I definitely think it's worth trying. Another option is to create a new homepage (not duplicate it, since that didnt' work - make a totally new page) and see if the issue is still happening there. Please let me know the results.
I create a new page from scratch, re-designing the blocks: hidden link
I cloned and translated separately.
I simply clicked on "Update" on the French page, and content gets copied from Italian: hidden link
I kindly ask you support for this case. We are evaluating to re-translate the whole website with another plugin, investing hours and money, since we can't seem to solve this issue.
I FINALLY managed to translate a home page without having the syncing/overwriting problem: hidden link
I have tested any way I know to start from scratch and translate a page:
1) if I translate via "DUPLICATE": the content gets synced/overwritten from IT to FR&DE
2) if I translate via "COPY CONTENT": the content gets synced/overwritten from IT to FR&DE
3) if I translate simply using the TOP LANGUAGE SWITCHER in the backend: translations are unsynced
So, it looks to me that WPML, on our website, has a conflict with Avada Builder and, under certain conditions, behaves like I choosed to sync translations, even if I specifically selected TRANSLATE SEPARATELY.
Could you please give me a feedback on that?
Thanks,
