[Resolved] edit with elementor does not work on the duplicate footer
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client was unable to edit the footer template in a secondary language using Elementor, encountering a safe mode notification and issues with the layout not being editable beyond text translation. Solution: We recommended that if the client prefers not to use the Translation Editor, they should duplicate the footer to the secondary language and enable the WordPress Editor. This can be done by editing the footer in the original language using the WordPress Editor, navigating to the right column, clicking on the Language block, and selecting the WordPress Editor in the popup window, ensuring the changes only affect that specific footer. Additionally, the client was using a beta version of WPML, which is not recommended for live sites. We advised installing the latest stable version of WPML (v4.6.15) to potentially resolve the issue. Furthermore, the issue of not being able to edit the footer in English was due to the English language being hidden in the user profile settings. We resolved this by activating the option to see hidden languages using the credentials provided by the client.
Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. If the issue persists, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. This behavior might happen if the Footer is set to be translated with the Translation Editor. I'd recommend translating the footer via the Translation Editor, however, if you want to manually edit the footer in the secondary language, then the best way would be to duplicate the footer to the secondary language and then enable the WordPress Editor. You can enable the WordPress Editor by editing the footer in the original language (using the WordPress Editor, not Elementor) -> Go to the right column -> Language block -> Click on WordPress Editor -> In the popup window select the that the changes only affect that footer and save the changes.
I would like you to check this more..seems it is happening in everything. I dont want to use the translation editor. I d rather use the wordpress editor
In the case that you don't want to use the Translation Editor, then you need to repeat the same steps I described in my previous message and select the last option that appears in the popup window to disable the Translation Editor (and activate the WordPress Editor) in all the content of the site.
IEven if that works there is the layout issue. There night be a need to change eg columns size in a language. If i cannot edit with elementor i can only translate text. I cannot change layout
Ok here is what i found out. I created a copy on a test server and it works with the beta!
I used advanced editor..translated. Then edited with elementor. And it worked.
Is the beta safe to use on a live site? How far is it for release?
The Beta version, as its name suggests, is not 100% ready for production, so if you decide to use it you must do it under your responsibility.
Could you share the access credentials to your production site, or a staging site that is not using the beta version of WPML so I can take a look at the configuration and run some tests? I have set your next message private so you can securely share the credentials.
If you share the credentials from the production site, please confirm you have a full site backup that you can restore if necessary.
Hi there,
Thank you for sharing the credentials requested.
As I mentioned in my previous message, you installed the beta version, not the latest stable version of WPML plugins. Please install WPML's latest stable version (v4.6.15) and double-check if the issue disappeared.
The cause of this behavior is that English language is hidden and you need to edit your user profile and activate the option to see the hidden languages.
I did it with the credentials you share and now I can edit the footer with Elementor on English.
