This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problema:

Hi
All the pages are automatically translated by WPML, which is nice. Image captions (and alt tags) though, aren't and I can nog find out how to do it.

In WPML Settings I started media translation (see screenshot), but that didn't change anything.

Is it possible to have captions and alt tags translated automatically? If so, how can I do this? I hope so because there are a lot of images on this website.

Kind regards
Lieve

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML support. While you are waiting for one of my colleagues to take this ticket and work on it, let me provide you with first debugging steps or if I can perhaps help with the issue quickly.

You can translate media texts by going to Media and then use the admin language switcher in the top of your dashboard to change languages. Then, click on the image you want to edit and you can edit the alt text, caption, description etc right from the media library.

If that does not resolve the issue please let us know and we will be happy to further troubleshoot.

Regards.

Thank you, Wasaq.
Does that mean that I have to translate every alt tag, caption and descrpition of every image manually? Is there no way to have them automatically translated?
Kind regards
Lieve

Hello Lieve,
I hope you're doing well.

I've taken over this ticket and would be happy to assist you further in this matter.

The image metadata, including captions, ALT text, and descriptions, can be translated automatically if you have selected this option(hidden link) in WPML > Settings > Media Translation. According to the screenshot you provided, this option is already enabled. If the metadata is still not being translated automatically, please try the following steps to see if they resolve the issue:

- Please go to `WPML > Settings` and scroll to the "Media Translation" section.
- Uncheck the option "Translate media library texts with posts" option and click on "Apply". After that, Select that option again and click on the "Apply" button.
- Once done, open the post/page that contains the images in the WordPress editor.
- Make a small change to the title and save the changes.
- Clear the caches from your site and browser and Proceed to update the translation. The Image metadata should now be visible in the translation editor. If Automatic translation is enabled, the contents should get translated automatically.

Please let me know how it goes. I will be happy to help if you need further assistance in this matter.

Best regards,
Prosenjit
