Background of the issue:
I am trying to add a new language to my site and use automatic translation. My posts were originally translated using the classic editor.

Symptoms:
No specific issue or error message mentioned.

Questions:
Can I add a new language and use automatic translation if the post was translated in the classic editor?

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us.

While you wait for my colleague to take over the ticket, let me try to help you with the issue quickly.

If you use the Classic Translation Editor on your site, you can switch to the Advanced Translation Editor for new translations. You can keep existing translations in the Classic Translation Editor or move them to the Advanced Translation Editor.

If you switch existing translations to the Advanced Translation Editor, they will appear fine on the front-end. But, to make them appear or update them in the Advanced Translation Editor, you'll need to retranslate your content by either using automatic translation or copy pasting the existing translations.

Hello,
thanks for your reply!

I understand, but what if, for example, I have a post on my website translated into English using the classic editor and now I would like to translate it into German using the automatic editor? Is this possible?

That is, one post originally in Polish is translated into English (classic editor) and can it be translated into German (automatic translation)?

If you mean you want to translate the content from English into German or even from Polish int German, then you can do it by going to WPML > Settings and making sure you have the advanced translation editor selected and also the classic editor under "what to do with already translated content".

Then I suggest you send the page to translate via WPML > Translation management and select the "translate Automatically" option there, instead of doing it directly from the page.

That should do the trick but please know that it's very possible that if you open an already translated page from before using the Advanced Translation Editor, you might end up getting it opened on the translation editor, because what you want to do is probably not sustainable on the long term.

Regards.
