Hello, The word count is an estimate, not the actual words that may need to be translated. For example, there may be some custom fields that contain translatable content that may be missed in the estimation. Are you using any custom fields or product add-ons that might add hidden text counted as words? To how many languages did you translate the products? Best Regards, |

Hi Otto, I’m afraid the issue isn’t on my end—there seems to be a technical problem with your system. My client had 92 000 credits. After translating only 24 products into one language, the system counted roughly 7 000 words. Using DeepL, that should have cost about 14 000 credits, yet the entire balance was deducted. I need to keep working, but I can’t proceed without those credits. I don’t plan to purchase more; please refund the credits that were taken in error. Thank you for your help. |

Hello, I refunded 78000 credits to your account. Please assign them to the site and you should be good to go. Before sending a big batch to translate, please do a small test (1-3 post/products). This will help us to identify the problem. Best Regards, |

HI Otto, Thank you for assigning the credits to my site rebelskin.pl—the automatic translation started right away. Each product contains roughly 350 words (screenshot 2), so the total word-count should not have exhausted the available credits. I have used WPML for other clients and have never experienced this, even on much larger sites with fewer credits. I would like to switch to the pay-as-you-go model, but only if I can monitor exactly how many credits are being used. Is there a log or report I can review? It looks as though an error may be consuming credits incorrectly. Thank you for looking into this. |

Hello, I am sorry to hear that. Can you please edit a product translation and check if in the editor you see text that should not be translated? Maybe custom fields that contain CSS or other theme or plugins options? This may be increasing the credits usage and may not be taken into account in the word count estimation. I already check and there are products that used above 2000 credits, which seems to be a lot for the visible words. You can check the logs in WPML -> Translation Management -> Translation tools -> Automatic translation usage reports. Best Regards, |

Hi Otto, There is definitely something wrong with the way credits are being calculated. Let’s look at one product as an example: PL: hidden link EN: hidden link As you can see, both the product description and the short description contain very little text. Below is the entry from the log file you asked me to review related to this product: 85be0b7a-78c4-49c7-87fa-529979ca1d0d, 06/05/25 16:01:08, 145153980, 4508, bulk.mt@wpml.org, hidden link, deepl, pl_en If I understand the format correctly, the figure 4508 represents the number of credits deducted for this single product. That can’t be right—it contains only two custom-field values (just numbers) and a short description. No custom CSS is injected; the site uses the same theme I’ve run on other WPML projects without any issues. If it helps, I can provide you with temporary admin credentials so you can investigate directly. Best regards, |

Hello, I checked the translation of this product: It also translated all the tags and categories of the product (and the category descriptions). Check this screencast: This is expected: Probably you'll see higher than expected credit usage until all the product tags and categories are translated. After that, ATE will use the Translation Memory and credits will be no longer needed for that. Best Regards, |

Hi Otto, Ok, I think this must be the issue – we have a very long product category description. But I believe the problem is that WPML translated the product category more than once, and I don’t think it should have. Look at the screenshot I provided. The category "sports leggings" and the product description appear translated in a different product. So I think the system translated the entire product category within every product. Can you check it out, please? |

Hello, The fact that the translation appears in the editor does not mean that it consumed credits. If that segment was already translated somewhere else, it will appear, but it won't cost you anything. I think everything worked as expected because I can see a few products that costed a lot (probably the ones that include taxonomies for the first time) and others that cost what you expected related to the content of the product itself. To avoid this confusion in the future, you can translate all the taxonomies in one go: Best Regards, |

OK, thanks, that makes sense. One last question: I now have 111 pending product translations. When I add credits to my account, will it start immediately? How can I stop it and test the translation on just one product? |

Hello, Adding prepaid credits re-activates every job currently sitting in the Translations queue; WPML immediately begins translating them in the background. So, please try the following: Best Regards, |
