This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing issues where content on their website is being automatically translated despite the 'Translate What You Choose' setting being enabled. This issue was observed on the 'Careers' page where the title changed automatically.
Solution:
1. If you're experiencing automatic translations with the 'Translate What You Choose' setting, it might be due to having automatic translation credits or being registered to the Pay-as-you-go option. You can undo the automatic translation and then select 'No- don't translate automatically' to prevent future automatic translations.
2. To ensure WPML does not automatically translate content, access the Advanced Translation Editor, click the gear icon in the top-right corner, and unselect 'Translate all content automatically when the editor opens'.
3. If you prefer not to use WPML's Advanced Translation Editor at all, set your default editor to 'WordPress Editor' as described in our documentation: Using Different Translation Editors for Different Pages.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I have a site where the 'Translation Mode' is set to 'Translate What You Choose', but content is being translated automatically. For example, on the 'Careers' page, the title was changed from 'Jobs...' to 'Banen...'. Here are the links to the screenshots: hidden link and hidden link. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link.

Symptoms:
Content is being translated automatically despite the 'Translate What You Choose' setting.

Questions:
Why is content being translated automatically when 'Translate What You Choose' is selected?
How can I prevent automatic translation of content?

Hi,

The following is true even when 'Translate What You Choose' is selected. It happens when you have available automatic translation credits or are registered to the Pay-as-you-go option. However, you have the option to undo the automatic translation and then decide if you want WPML to translate the content next time automatically or not. Please see the attached screenshots.

Itamar.

Hi,

I'm sorry if I was not clear enough. That option was there the first time you translated the page. Now, after accepting the translations, it is not there. But you still should have the option to edit the translation and change 'Banen' to 'Jobs' or any other translation you need.

Itamar.

So there is no option to disable that? We don't want to content be override without our consent.

Hi,

Yes, there is an option to cancel that. The first time you click the `Undo translation` (see my screenshot from November 19), you can select the option `No- don't translate automatically` and then the Advanced Translation Editor will not translate automatically by default, only if you click the `Translate automatically` button. The primary setting for this can be found when you click the gear icon in the right-top corner of the Advanced Translation Editor. Then, a pop-up appears. The first option is `Translate all content automatically when the editor opens`. Unselecting this option will cancel this feature. Please see the attached screenshot.

Regards,
Itamar.

Just to clarify, we are not using the WPML editor for (adjusting) translations and we have the feeling that our already adjusted and manually translated pages are being adjusted automatically somehow. Is the answer of yours still applicable in that case?

Hi,

I don't see an option that your translations are being adjusted automatically if you only use the WordPress editor.

If you are not using WPML's Advanced Translation Editor, this option should not be selected. But according to your screenshots, it has been selected. To avoid using WPML's Translation Editor, choose "WordPress Editor". Please see the attached screenshot. The following link explains how NOT to use WPML's Translation Editor.
