This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
After migrating a fully translated site from local to live, the client could not create new translation jobs due to an error stating 'translator could not be assigned to the job'. Despite confirming that REST API and admin-ajax were functional, and even after redoing the migration and attempting ATE sync troubleshooting, the issue persisted.
Solution:
We discovered that the structure of WPML's translation status table was altered during the migration. We corrected this issue, and now the translation jobs should function correctly.

If this solution does not resolve your issue, or if it seems outdated or irrelevant to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If problems persist, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

After migrating a fully translated site from local to live, we cannot create new translation jobs.
Error: “translator could not be assigned to the job”.
REST API works, admin-ajax works, migration redone, ATE sync troubleshooting steps done.

Can you guys help? Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out!

It could be that the jobs got stuck if they were originally created on a different site URL.

Could you please try to edit the original content, save the page again? This will update the translation status, and you should be able to update the translation.

If this does not solve the issue, please let me know.

Best regards
Andreas

Hello

Unfortunately, that doesn’t solve the problem. As I mentioned, I’ve already tried a whole host of things; I’ve even edited all my pages and tried again.

Thanks in advance

Best regards

Inside WPML > Instellingen > Automatische vertaling, please enter the context information for your site.

This info is now mandatory for automatic translation to function.

Hi

I’ve entered that information, but unfortunately it hasn’t solved the problem. I’ve also made a small change to the page to trigger a reload, but it still isn’t working.

Please could you help us resolve this as soon as possible? I urgently need to be able to continue translating.

Kind regards

Yasmine

Hello Yasmine,

I have just sent the header and footer templates again to automatic translation, and the translations have been marked as completed.

Could you please send the content that you would like to translate to automatic translation at WPML > Translation Dashboard, and let me know if you run into any unexpected issues?

Note that you will need more credits to translate the pages automatically.

Hi

OK, I don’t think you’ve quite got it. I don’t want to translate anything automatically; I want to do it myself. But it’s not working anymore. When I click on the pencil icon or the arrows to translate a page, I’m automatically redirected to the ‘Translate’ page instead of the translation opening straight away. And when I click on ‘Edit’ under ‘Actions’ there, I get a message saying ‘The translator could not be assigned to the task’. So the translation just doesn’t open anymore and I can’t edit anything.

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Yasmine

My apologies for the misunderstanding!

I can see the issue now and do sadly not yet have a working solution. I will take a copy of your site for troubleshooting the issue on a virtual server.

Sidenote:
One of your user profiles was missing a first name and a last name. All admins and translators need to have a valid first name, last name, and email address so that the Advanced Translation Editor can validate the users.

I have fixed this already.

It looks like something altered the structure of WPML's translation status table.

I have fixed the issue now.
