This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: When navigating into the French folder in the WordPress Dashboard under Pages->All Pages, both WordPress and Yoast SEO switch to French, even though the default language is set to English. Solution: If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend you navigate to your WordPress Dashboard > Users > Profile. Here, you will find an option labeled Set admin language as editing language. Uncheck this option to prevent WordPress and Yoast SEO from switching to French when accessing the French folder.
Please note that this solution might be irrelevant if it's outdated or not applicable to your case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I am working on the site hidden link. I translate content from English to French using WPML.
Symptoms:
WordPress suddenly switches to French under my translated pages, affecting the WordPress and SEO interface.
Questions:
Why does WordPress suddenly become in French under my translated pages?
Is there a way to stop WordPress from switching to French in the interface?
It is within the WordPess Dashboard, via Pages->All Pages. WordPress is currently set to ENGLISH. But, WPML separates the translated pages from the original pages through separate folders, one named English and the other French. When navigating into the French folder, WordPress and Yoast SEO become completely in French.
I see what you mean now. It should not happen that way. Maybe there is a plugin conflict that causes such issue.
Would you please follow the steps below?
- IMPORTANT STEP! Create a backup of your website. Or better approach will be to test this on a copy/staging version of the website to avoid any disruption of a live website.
- Switch to the default theme such as "TwentyTwenty" by going to "WordPress Dashboard > Appearance > themes".
- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > Plugins" and deactivate all plugins except WPML and its add-ons.
- Check if you can still recreate the issue.
- If not, re-activate your plugins one by one and check the issue each time to find out the plugin that causes the problem.
If the problem persists after the steps above please set the next reply as private and give the login information so I can check.
It is not a setting in WPML. That is very strange as it should not be the default behavior of WPML
I contacted our second-tiers support and explained the issue there.
I am waiting for their insight and I will get back to you.
It may take time.
Just FYI, I Unregistered WPML as it was not possible to update it. You were using older version. I used my Key and updated WPML: and then unregistered.
Please register WPML again with your key:
- Make sure that you are logged in wpml.org.
- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Commercial (Tab)".
- Click the "Register WPML" at the right section of the screen.
- Click the "Get a key for this site" link annotated in the screenshot below.
- A new page will open up and the auto-generated key will show in pop-up.
- Copy the key and paste it into the "Site Key" input box annotated in the screenshot below.
- Click the "OK" button.
