This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client updated their website and noticed that the language switcher incorrectly displays 'IT' instead of 'DE' in the header of the Italian page.
Solution:
We reviewed the issue and identified that a specific CSS code was causing the incorrect display of the language in the header. We recommend removing this CSS code to resolve the issue.

If this solution does not apply to your situation, or if it seems outdated, we encourage you to check for related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verify the version of the permanent fix, and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I just updated my website and now somehow it shows IT instead of DE in the header of the Italian page (hidden link).

Symptoms:
The language switcher shows the wrong language on my header. I expected to see DE in the header and not IT (the same language as the page).

Questions:
Can you check this and let me know what do I make wrong?

Hi,

Thanks for contacting WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.

Could you please check if the issue persists in a minimal environment by following these steps?

1- Deactivate all the plugins except WPML CMS, String Translation, Elementor, and Elementor Pro.
2- Switch to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Twenty-one.

If the issue is gone, activate them one by one to see which one is causing an interaction issue.

❌ Please back up your database before the above test ❌

Best regards,
Osama

Hello,

I use the Hello Theme which is not the problem. I also tried to deactivate all the plugins except Elementor, Elementor Pro and the WPML Plugins and the issue still persists.
Can i send you the credentials to check this out by yourself?
Thank you very much, Thomas

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP)
Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.

❌ Please back up your database and website ❌

✙ I need your permission to deactivate and reactivate the plugins and themes and change site configurations. This is also why the backup is critical.

✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi,

Thanks for the access details. I checked the issue and found that there is a CSS code that causes the issue. (Kindly check this hidden link">screenshot)

Please remove this code and check the issue.

Best regards,
Osama
