Hello Claudio,

these are the steps that usually would lead to show two different footer blocks on a site:

Option 1:

- In the Widget you choose the option to make the widget multilanguage and choose to show it in all languages.
- In WML > String Translation you search for the Widgets text and translate it there.
- On the Website, the widget will appear in english or another language depending on the language of the page.

Option 2:
- You make two widgets, one for each language, and assign each widget to show only on one language. You have to save the widget first as multilanguage and then save for a specific language again.

Sometimes this does not work, because the theme has its own widget logic or its own widgets.

A common problem is f.ex. that the original language of the widget is the "wrong" language. In that case, you can change the default language of a widget in String Translation by selecting the checkbox for that string and clicking on the button to change the original language.

Another exception might be when the footer text is stored as a theme-option that you need to register as admin-string to translate.

If you don’t find that string directly in String Translation, please scroll down the page. Make sure that in the module above this link under the module “Auto register strings for translation” the visible text indicates that Strings from all text domains will be auto-registered.

Then click on the link to “translate texts in admin screens”. In the next screen you will find admin texts that may contain the footer text you need to translate. Search for it and. if you find it, add it to string translation. You then will be able to translate that text then in String Translation.

If it does not show after this, the field may have to be registered in an xml configuration file to be read directly by WPML.

In that case you can create a little configuration xml like this:

[php]
<wpml-config>
<admin-texts>
<key name="[the_name_of _your _custom_field]"></key>
</admin-texts>
</wpml-config>
[php]

If your problem is different and is not solved with this procedure, I may take a look on the site if you need it.

Kind regards,
Cristina

Hello Claudio,

no problem, I am activating the private response box for your next reply so you can add an admin user for temporary access. I will have a look at the footer and the translation of that.

Kind regards,
Cristina

Hello Claudio,

thanks for the credentials. I added this snippet to the existing xml language configuration file inside your theme folder (wp-content/themes/theeme48744):

<admin-texts>
    <key name="theme48744">
      <key name="footer_text"/>
    </key>
  </admin-texts>

This way your existing config file looks now like this:

<wpml-config>
	<custom-types>
		<custom-type translate="1">rooms</custom-type>
	</custom-types>
	<taxonomies>
		<taxonomy translate="1">rooms_category</taxonomy>
	</taxonomies>
	<admin-texts>
    <key name="theme48744">
      <key name="footer_text"/>
    </key>
  </admin-texts>
</wpml-config>

You can now translate the footer text in String Translation. It will appear under the text-domain "admin_texts_theme48744". I added EN and IT to the english and italian footer to show it, but you can now adapt it to your needs.

The strings appeared as admin strings, but they could not be added to String Translation. As WPML Translation Management is not active on the site I pasted the information for the fields to the xml file via FTP.

Kind regards,
Cristina

Hello Christina, Unfortunately, I noticed that when I click on the home page on the English flag (language switch), the footer text does NOT switch! What could I do?
