I installed the three plugins, with the OTGS installer: WPML Multilingual CMS, WPML String Translation and WooCommerce Multilingual.
Then I encountered two problems:
1. There is a red banner visible saying "Some of the taxonomies on your site are forced to be untranslatable." and I should deactivate plugins, to find out where the problem lies.
2. When trying to translate products WPML says it can find/assign the translator.
Then I deactivated WooCommerce Multilingual the banner disappears.
Now with the WooCommerce Multilingual plugin ACTIVE, if I go to WPML -> Support it says WooCommerce Multilingual plugin is NOT INSTALLED.
I then tried uninstalling and installing the stand alone version of WooCommerce Multilingual, to no avail.
I would like to add, that I'm not able to translate any page. If in dashboard->pages and I click on the plus to add a translation I will be taken to an editor to name a page?!
I had WPML installed two years ago and now purchased a new license and hoped everything to work...
Thanks for the quick response!
That is a good question, it could be that I had the old version (although disabled), still installed. But I'm not sure, how could verify that? If it was there then it was a version which was current in spring 2022 I guess.
Are you intending to continue the old work you started with WPML two years ago?
In other words, did you use WPML to translate posts, pages, products, and strings two years ago, and do you want to continue with WPML from this point on?
If not, there is an option to reset WPML. Please read about it in the following guide.
I'm fine with deleting the work I made so far. So I have gone ahead with the reset as described in your link. There were no files to delete on the webserver under /languages/plugins.
Now the problem was that it deleted all my custom pages in Divi theme builder (Menus, Shop and category pages for WooCommerce). I spend a lot of time creating those and thus loaded the backup I made before hand.
I didn't check if other things were also bricked by the WPML reset.
Now please help me resetting WPML, without deleting the pages in themes builder. I checked, before and after reset, the Theme activated is: Divi Child Theme.
When resetting WPML, none of the site's content should be deleted. As far as I know, this also includes Divi templates. The default language of your site is German.
Were those Divi templates (Menus, Shop, and category pages for WooCommerce) built in German?
Did you build them while WPML was installed and active on your site?
My default language is German. On my first install in 21/22 I had major problem though, because the default was English. It could very well be that I created those Divi custom pages back then and they are somehow recognized as English.
One of the Divi them builder pages is hidden link for example.
Your case might be related to another known issue we have - Divi - Global Footer Translation is not displayed upon changing the default language. You can see it here.
