Background of the issue:
I have a page in Italian with a corresponding English version. This page has buttons with a specific URL. The URL for my button is: hidden link

Symptoms:
If I don't translate the URL from the translation editor, the URL gets malformed, but if I do translate it, it removes the '&' character.

Questions:
How can I prevent the URL from getting malformed when not translated?
How can I ensure the '&' character is preserved when translating the URL?

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this issue. I could replicate it on my test site and I escalated it to our second-tier supporters.

As a workaround, please do the following.

1. On the editing screen of the original page, use the Language Switcher at the top admin bar to switch to the page's translation.

2. On the translation editing screen, click "Edit anyway" on the pop-up window.

3. Manually edit the link, change it to the correct link, and save.

4. Press the Update button on the page.

**** Important! Please make a full site backup (files and DB) before you proceed with those steps****

We will keep you updated here on any news regarding this issue.

I appreciate your patience.

Regards,
Itamar.

Hi,
Update
This issue has been escalated to our developers and will be fixed in future versions of WPML's Advanced Translation Editor. Meanwhile, as a workaround, you can switch to the older version of WPML's Advanced Translation Editor.

You can read about it here.
https://wpml.org/announcements/2024/07/new-and-improved-advanced-translation-editor/
Please look under the title "Want to Use the Previous Version?".

We'll keep you informed when the issue is fixed.

Regards,
Itamar.

Hello,

We made some adjustments to solve the ampersand translation issue.

Could you please switch to the new version of the WPML Advanced Translation Editor, edit the original content, save it and then open the translation.

Please try to complete the translation to 100% and let us know if the issue persists.

Best regards
Andreas
