Hi Bigul,

Can you point me to documentation on how to change the PDF File associated with an ACF download file link? I can't seem to figure out how to do it. (i.e. on the Library page, we have many external links and PDF files for download that need to be changed to different external links and to the spanish versions of those PDFs)

Thank you,
Taryn

Hi Taryn,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve the issue.

Please check the attached images. Hope you are trying to translate the value of fields like *file_one*.

If so, those fields' value is set as *Copy*. Please change it to *Translate* and save the changes.

Then update the Library page and its translations, and make sure you are getting the expected results or not. Refer to the following documentation for more details.

Hi Taryn,

Thank you for the updates. The File fields are part of a page. So it has to be translated via WPML Editor. Please modify the fields' translation preference to *Translate*. Then update the Page in the original language to refresh the translation settings.

Most probably the values will be showing as URLs in the WPML Editor screen. Please try it and let us know your feedback.

Hi Bigul,

I modified all the fields as you mentioned to 'translate' but I am still not seeing them appear in the translation editor?

Could you send screenshots of what you mean?

An example of what I am trying to do is:

On page: hidden link

Where it says: Guía de la ONU sobre armas menos letales en las fuerzas del orden
Change the link on that button to: hidden link

From: hidden link

But I don't see this URL anywhere in the translation editor (the one accessed from the tool bar when you are on the Spanish page).

In terms of changing the PDF downloads I see the field in the editor but they have a strange value (not the file name). I have attached a screenshot.

Thank you,
Taryn

Hi Taryn,

Thank you for the updates. The hidden link page is not showing the following link. Please check the attached image.

Guía de la ONU sobre armas menos letales en las fuerzas del orden

So please share the name/id of the fields you are trying to translate. It will be easier to track. Because the library page has many custom fields.

Sorry have a look here:
hidden link

Same login info applies. I had a problem with the staging site.

After making those fields set to 'translate' I am still not seeing them in the backend and the URL fields are not showing up at all. (screenshot attached)

Thank you!
Taryn

Hi Taryn,

Thank you for the updates. One request. If possible, please create a new staging site. So we can troubleshoot the issue without affecting your live site. I am enabling the private option for the next reply.

Hi Taryn,

I had a few rounds of testing in the staging site as per the expert opinion from our developers and got the expected results after the following steps. Please check it and let us know your feedback.

1) Choose *File ID* option for the *Return Value* of the File Custom field
2) Save the changes
3) Visit WPML>>Media Translation
4) Translate the media file to the secondary language
5) Update the page, then its translation

If we are using WPML Media Translation with the latest version of ACF Multilingual, it will automatically adjust the ID of the translated files. But we have to choose the *File ID* option for the return value and no need of choosing the *Translate* option for File custom fields.

I created a test page(WPML Test) and a Custom Field group for tracking this. Refer to the attached images for more details.

Thank you Bigul, I will try that.

And with regards to the link fields that aren't showing up in the translator (also the library page), what did you find out about those?

New threads created by Bigul and linked to this one are listed below:

Hi Taryn,

Thank you for the updates. Take your time. We will wait for your feedback.

Please note that I have opened a new ticket for the Link field issue. Because as per our support policies, we can only handle one issue per ticket. It will help us to serve you better and we can avoid discussing multiple problems in one ticket. I will get back to you soon on the latest ticket. Thank you for your understanding.
