Hi, I have just installed WPML and trying to add Kazakh language to my website as a second language.
To have good reading url I would like to have a language code /kz insted of kk-kz. How can I do it?
Currently the system does not allow me to change the code but leave other settings like hreflang etc as it is.
Please find screenshot attached.

Hi there,

Once a language is added to the system or if it's one of the pre-loaded languages the language code cannot be changed.

Please go to WPML->languages->Edit languages->Add a new language and from there add a new language that will use the language code 'kz'.

But I cannot finish insatllation without any languages added.
Should I add wrong language, and after installation remove it and add my custom?
Would it be recognized by the system for the Automatic translation?

Kindly ask for the support

Best,

Yes, that is correct, if it is a new installation, I recommend the following:

1. Add your default language of course

2. Add the secondary language you need or a random one that is ok.

3. Finish the installation of WPML and now head back to WPML->Languages->Edit languages and add the custom language.

Once done you can map the language to use the automatic translation
https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/using-automatic-translation-with-custom-languages/

Let me know once you there if you need more help from me to make this work 🙂
