This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client tries to install WPML but receives an error stating that the component 'wpml-string-translation' is up to date, but 'sitepress-multilingual-cms' is not. Solution: 1. Make a backup copy of the site. 2. If WPML is registered on the site, try updating from the 'Plugins >> Add New' page, in the 'Commercial' tab and clicking the 'Check for Updates' button. 3. If the problem persists, perform a manual update: a. Delete the WPML Multilingual CMS plugin files from the 'wp-content/plugins' folder (this will not delete the translations). b. Download the updated plugins from our downloads page and upload them to the plugins directory. c. Activate the WPML plugin and add-ons. For more details, see the documentation on manually updating WPML .

Thank you for contacting WPML Support. Could you please follow the below steps and let me know how it goes:
1. For updating WPML component, please take a backup of your site and follow the below steps:
- If you have registered WPML on your site then you should be able to update it from Plugins >> Add New page, click the Commercial tab, and then click the “Check for updates” button. Here is the screenshot for more details: https://wpml.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/wpml-force-plugin-update-1.png
If the issue persists, please follow the below steps for manual update:
1. Please delete the WPML Multilingual CMS plugin files – this does not delete your translations. You will delete the plugin files from your "wp-content/plugins" folder, NOT the database records.
Thanks for sharing the debug info on your site. I’ve examined the debug info and it seems you are already using the latest version of WPML plugins on your site. If you are still seeing that notice “You are running updated wpml-string-translation, but the following component is not updated” on your site, please provide temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP Login info) to your site (preferably staging site), so that I can look into your setup and debug the issue.
Your next answer will be private which means only you and I have access to it.
=== Please backup your database and website ===
✙ I would additionally need your permission to deactivate and reactivate Plugins and the Theme and to change configurations on the site. This is also a reason the backup is really important.
Thanks for providing the login details. I’ve logged into your site and I can confirm that you are using the latest version of WPML plugins on your site and I can’t see “You are running updated wpml-string-translation, but the following component is not updated” notice anymore.
