This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client was experiencing issues with untranslated strings on their multilingual website, including checkout steps not appearing in English, and an error message indicating a stuck automatic translation. Additionally, there were discrepancies in the header and footer between the Dutch and English versions, and the Checkout Field Editor Pro plugin seemed to require a PRO version for WPML compatibility.
2. We recommended increasing the WP memory limit to at least 128MB, as per WPML's minimum requirements
3. We provided a video tutorial to help the client find strings that don't show up in WPML -> String Translation.
4. We instructed the client to scan the Flatsome theme from WPML -> Theme and plugins localization page to ensure all related strings appear for translation.
5. We addressed the Checkout Field Editor Pro plugin issue by checking if the strings were available for translation in WPML -> String Translation and verifying the default language settings of the fields.
6. We suggested translating strings related to the domain "woocommerce" for the header cart steps issue.
7. For a new issue regarding the front page showing in Dutch when English is selected, we created a separate ticket to maintain clarity and focus.
If the solution provided here is not relevant to your case, either because it's outdated or not applicable, we recommend opening a new support ticket. We also highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.

I have translated our Dutch website (www.italianbracelet.nl) in English first to see if it all works (planning for DE, FR, IT, ES, PO). I have a few issues I will need some help with.
There are a few strings of text which are not translated and I don't know how to do it.
Besides this also the checkout steps (Cart --> Payment Details --> Complete order) disappear in English.
Thank you for contacting WPML Support, I will be happy to help you.

To translate the strings you can go to WP-Admin -> WPML -> String translation, and in the table that shows up look for the string you want to translate and click the "+" sign under the respective language flag.
Hi Marsel, Thanks for helping out. Above the debug info. I managed translating all strings that appear but will have a look at the strings that do not appear and how to fix that. Let me know if you can find something about WooCommerce checkout steps not showing. Kind regards, Ardjan
It is not related to the issue, but according to your debug info, the WP memory limit needs to be increased, WordPress uses 40Mb as default and the minimum requirements for WPML are 128 MB. (Kindly check this page: https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/)
You can increase it by adding the following code in your wp-config.php file right before the line: /* That's all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */
* For the string you don't find try following the documentation I shared before and it you have any questions let me know.
In order to check further the issue with the WooCommerce multistep and understand it better, I would need a temporary access to your website. I would need to access your site's WP-admin.
Please make a full backup of your site (files and database) and confirm it in your next reply.
Your next reply is set to private for you to provide the username and password details.
You can safely add your information into these fields.
Please check this video on how you can find the strings that don't show up on WPML -> String translation : hidden link
On the video I added as an example the strings: "Dank voor je bestelling! Ik wens je alvast enorm veel plezier van jouw Italian Bracelet. Met vriendelijke groet, Yasmine".
* Note that the string default language was showing the flag in English while the text was in Dutch so in these case was needed to switch the original string language to Dutch in order so it can be translated in English.
As for the checkout steps, could you please tell me if that is a default theme option or are you using any page builder/plugin to add it on the Dutch version?
*I checked and on if you switch to English when you are at the checkout page the menu doesn't show up at all.
The FTP is not needed for now, I'll let you know if I'll need access further.
ps 3. I edited a product just now and got the error:
Er is iets misgegaan met de automatische vertaling. Neem contact op met WPML support en meld dat de volgende automatische vertaling is vastgelopen: 88165297
translated:
Something went wrong with the automatic translation. Contact WPML support and report that the following machine translation is stuck: 88165297
Hi Marsel,
The string translation bit works; thanks for helping out.
Concerning the checkout steps we just use the WooCommerce/Flatsome theme checkout. The strange thing is when the website was still Dutch only these checkout steps were in English and I could not find anywhere how to get these translated into Dutch. After installing WPML al of a sudden they were translated in Dutch. Must be the same thing here maybe? A string that needs translation?
Another thing is the label fields in the checkout : they are all Dutch and could not find these in the strings....
As I mentioned on my previous message the header is missing and the bottom of the "Cart" page Dutch is different form the one in English, could you check that the pages layout is set correctly? Please check video here: hidden link
- I noticed that you have the plugin "Loco Translate" installed, could you please tell me if you are using it for anything?
- Does the error related to the translation stuck: 88165297 continue?
I switched of Loco translate; I used it to have some English terms translated into Dutch from the Flatsome theme but I don't think it is necessary anymore and can only interfere with WPML.
I can see that EN and NL are different but I am not sure what I need to do to check the pages layout.
Also the labels (Street name and house number etc) in the fields still show up Dutch in the EN environment...
I scanned Flatsome theme from WPML -> Theme and plugins localization page in order to show up all the strings related to Flatsome theme on the WPML -> Strings translation page:
Now to translate those strings, go to WPML -> String Translation page and selected the “flatsome” domain and search for the strings that you need translated.
- Regarding the issue with the "Cart" page layout could you please check that it is translated correctly and that it is being set correctly?
Hi Marsel,
I tried looking for the string "Voornaam" and "Achternaam" for example which should be translated to "Name" and "Last name" when switched to English in the Checkout field label names. I could not find them (also the other label name fields cannot find).
I think it has to do with the plug-in Checkout Field Editor Pro: I found it says I need to buy the PRO version to be compatible with WPML. Is that true or is there a work around?
Concerning the header/footer being different in NL and EN I cannot find an explanation. Do you think I need to contact Flatsome for this?
I'checked your website again and I noticed that on WPML -> String translation the strings from the plugin "Checkout Field Editor Pro" seem to show up for translation (please check image attached).
Also, I checked the "Checkout Field Editor Pro" settings page and could you tell me if the fields there are in Dutch by default or you are setting them like that (please check image attached about which fields I am talking about)?
Hi Marsel,
I think most translations I got covered now.
The checkout issue seems Flatsome related; I will ask them for help.
Thanks for all your help
Kind regards,
Ardjan
