This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is trying to duplicate an English page that is populated by posts in secondary languages. The page is created with Elementor and uses Widgets to display posts by category.
Solution:
1. We recommend going to WPML > Settings > Custom Taxonomy Translation and setting the post categories to

"Translatable - only show translated items"

.
2. Then, navigate to WPML > Taxonomy Translation and create the translations for the categories.
3. After completing the translations, apply again the translation of the page that is displaying the posts.
If this solution does not resolve the issue, we invite the client to open a new support ticket for further assistance. You can do so by visiting our WPML support forum.

Hello,

There are two methods to translate your content:

1) With the WordPress Editor:

You can create a duplicate with WPML if a transition does not yet exist.

A duplicate will always get overwritten with the original content once the original content gets updated.

If you then would like to edit this duplicate as a manual translation created on the WordPress Editor, then you set the duplicate to "Translate independently".

Also, you can not duplicate and instead use the WordPress Editor as a translation method for the content. Then on the translated content's WordPress Editor, you choose "Copy content from.." then open Elementor and save the page.

Take note, that this will overwrite the whole content of the page and replace it with the original content, but it will not create a duplicate.

Those are the only methods, that WPML offers in this case, in order to copy content from the original language to translations.

2) The WPML Translation Editor

Here you see your whole site content inside the WPML Translation Editor and you will need to complete all the fields and mark the job to 100% completed. If you need the same content in both languages you can simply copy the original value to the translated field.

---

You can not use both methods at the same time, as the WPML Translation Editor does not recognize the changes taken on the translation inside the WordPress Editor.

This means, that if you edit a translation inside the WordPress Editor and then translate the content with the WPML Translation Editor your edits will be lost.

Best regards
Andreas

Hi Andreas,
Thank you for your help. I am sorry, but I left out a critical component to this question, which is I am using Elementor to create the page. I have a widget in Elementor that should populate with all of the Posts with the category "Writing Tips". The primary language (English) version works, but the secondary languages do not load any posts at all.

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

First, make sure that the post categories are translated at WPML > Taxonomy Translations.

Important:
Check the bottom section of that page and make sure that the category labels and most important the category base slug (part of the URL) are translated.

Then make sure to translate the page again.

If this will still not solve the issue, go to the translated page, open Elementor and try to set the correct category manually inside the widget.

Further, please let me know:

Which widget is it that you are using? is it a default Elementor Widget?

Best regards
Andreas

Thank you for your response.

Under WPML > Taxonomy Translations, I do not see any categories or base slugs listed. The only item under Select the taxonomy to translate: is Translation Priorities (see attached screenshot). The site was translated by a company - should they have done this?

The widget we are using is Elementor's Post widget.

Thanks again for your help.

I just noticed that none of the posts have been duplicated into the secondary languages. Is there a way to do this automatically without having to go into every post and click on every segment for each of the secondary languages? (I am not translationg these posts, they will be in the primary language across all secondary languages).

Is there a way to not have to duplicate every post into each of the secondary languages? If we edit or change a post, we will then have to replicate the change in every secondary language, which is part of the reason for not translating them to begin with.

Hello,

The widget is displaying standard WordPress posts filtered by categories, correct?

If so, please go to WPML > Settings > Custom Taxonomy Translation and set the post categories to "Translatable - only show translated items".

Then go to WPML > Taxonomy Translation and create the translations.

Once you are done, apply the translation fo your page that is displaying the posts again.

If this will not solve the issue, then please let me know and I will enable the private reply form, so that you can provide me admin access to the site.

Best regards
Andreas

That worked. I duplicated all of the posts using Translation Manager. Thank you.
