This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is trying to configure the default language URL format for their site using WPML, aiming to have English as the default language appear under the /en/ directory. However, the current URL format does not include the /en/ for English, showing as https://wpml.proplugin.com/ instead.
Solution:
We explained that by default, the default language in WPML does not include the language directory in the URL. If the client wishes to include the /en/ directory for the default English language, they need to enable the option "Use directory for the default language". This setting can be found in the WPML settings under the Language URL format options.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking the related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to configure the default language URL format for my site, which uses English as the default language and Thai as the secondary language. In WPML, I selected the option 'Different languages in directories.'

Symptoms:
The current URL format is incorrect. The English URL is shown as hidden link instead of the expected hidden link. url_format.png

Questions:
How can I adjust the settings in WPML to ensure that the default English language appears under the /en/ directory?
Why am I unable to change the Language URL format to the desired configuration after reinstalling WPML?

Hi,

thanks for contacting us.

There's no error here, the default language doesn't have the language directory by default, as you can see from the example.

If you want to enable the directory for the default language, you have the option "Use directory in the default language", you can see it in the 2nd screenshot you provided.

Hello,

I appreciate your help resolving the previous issue.

I’m now encountering a new issue with product category slugs in WPML. By default, WPML appends -th to every translated slug. Given that I’ve selected “Different languages in directories” (/en/, /th/), I would prefer the translated slugs to remain identical to the original.

Could you please advise how to disable the automatic “-th” suffix for translated category slugs?

Hi,

Welcome to WPML support. As the original issue is fixed I'd appreciate it if you could set this ticket as resolved.

This will help us to serve you better and the other customers can benefit from the answer.

Meanwhile I will create another ticket to address the second question.
