This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
If you're trying to fix string language settings in WPML > String Translation and expect to see different labels for Portugal Portuguese from Brazilian Portuguese, but instead encounter issues as shown in your screenshot.
Solution:
We've identified that this issue occurs if the admin language is set to Portuguese (either Brazilian or Portugal). As a temporary workaround, we recommend changing the admin language to English. Additionally, you can change the languages' names directly in WPML > Languages > Edit language table, which should resolve the issue.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Hi,

thanks for contacting us.

I checked the issue you're reporting and it seems it only happens if the admin language is Portuguese (either Brazilian or Portugal).

I'll report it to the devs but as a quick workaround I can suggest changing temporarily the admin language to English.

Keeping the ticket open.

Your "cleanup robot" should not close tickets in which the last reply was from you.

Sometimes people never reply to tickets, that's why we (as most other supports) automatically close tickets.

The second tier told me you can also change the languages' names in WPML > Languages > Edit language table and that would solve the issue.

Therefore, there won't be any fix in the system.

As I see it, this is a problem in the Portuguese PO/MO file of your plugin, which if you see my other tickets, has a lot of other problems in the translation.

I'm happy to help fixing the translation file, if you want to. I'm a regular contributor for the Portugal Portuguese WordPress and WooCommerce translations on wordpress.org.

Please let me know if you want me to send a fixed PO file, so I'm not doing work that is not going to be used, in case you're not interested.

The issue can't be fixed in the .po files because we handle languages' names in the icl_languages_translations table so it should be changed there.
I did a quick check and I couldn't find references to languages name.

Unfortunately changing it might lead to other issues, but we'll see to take the issue into consideration for the future.

Thanks for the offer of checking the .po file, but we're planning a redesign of several parts of the GUI in the upcoming releases, and we'll also retranslate the interface in the languages we support. So doing that work now might be a waste of time on your part since texts could change.

Hello, I just wanted to say I spoke again with the devs and the names' issues will be fixed in a future version.
