Tell us what you are trying to do?
I'm trying to disable products categories translation. I need have English and Italian languages but products and categories have to be untranslated.

When I check Not translatable in WPML setting the system report following message:

Some taxonomies in your site are forced to be untranslatable. This is causing a problem when you're trying to run a multilingual WooCommerce site.

A plugin or the theme are probably doing this.

What you can do:

1. Temporarily disable plugins and see if this message disappears.

2. Temporarily switch the theme and see if this message disappears.

It's best to contact WPML support, tell that you're getting this message and offer to send a Duplicator copy of the site. We will work with the theme/plugin author and fix the problem for good. In the meanwhile, we'll give you a temporary solution, so you're not stuck.

When I uncheck Not translatable the message disappear.

what am I doing wrong?

Thank you
Antonio

Hello Antonio,

With WPML categories are synced always from the original content to the translation, so that all posts or products use the same categories.

This will only work as expected, as long the categories are translated.

I would suggest that you try this:

Please go to WPML > Settings > Custom Taxonomy Translation and set the product categories to "Translatable - use translation if available or fallback to default language".

With this setting the product categories should show up in the site's default language on all language versions of the website, if a translation for this category does not exist.

Guide:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/#using-the-default-language-as-a-fallback-for-untranslated-content

This means, that if your site's default language is English and you created categories inside the English language, then those categories should show up in Italian as long this setting is enabled and the categories have not been translated yet.

Take note, that this setting might cause unexpected issues in specific setups and you should not change the site default language of this setting is used.

Best regards
Andreas
