I have a new english website (www.cotswolds-tours.co.uk) which I will be translating into Japanese with my wife (www.cotswolds-tours.jp). I will be duplicating each English page and then manually translating each page. I don't intend to use the WPML translation editor.
I have tried to start with the homepage and made a duplicate in the WPML translation management section. The Japanese page is showing the correct (English) content but I have a couple of issues.
1) the title for the homepage is including the slug- homepage- (www.cotswolds-tours.jp/homepage)
How do I get rid of the slug so it just shows as hidden link
2) the black editor is empty- there are no blocks showing and nothing to edit/translate
Can you please help with this before I move into other pages?
Thanks for contacting WPML support. I will try to answer your questions accordingly.
1) the title for the homepage is including the slug- homepage- (www.cotswolds-tours.jp/homepage)
How do I get rid of the slug so it just shows as hidden link? Kindly set the page as your homepage as explained here hidden link and then, it will only show hidden link. Could you give this a try?
2) the black editor is empty- there are no blocks showing and nothing to edit/translate I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
I've duplicated the page for you and could you please translate the page now using the option shown in the attached screenshot as shown in the attached screenshot?
I want to translate each page manually (not using the WPML translation editor).
I's the best way to do this to do it on each page using the WordPress editor and clicking on the 'cog' or is it better to go into WMPL translation management and translating the pages there?
I apologize for the inconvenience, but upon checking, I noticed that the "A different domain per language" status for your JP domain is "Not Valid," as indicated in the attached screenshot accessible here: hidden link
I checked and the JP domain now showing as valid so I have changed it back to different domain per language. But unfortunately as before all the translated Japanese content has reverted back to the original English.
From Siteground- "Sure, I watched the video and checked the screenshot, the domain is active and I do not see how this is something related to the server, but the WordPress application and its configurations which is something outside of our support scope, so as much I would love to help you with this it is something that you can double-check with the plugins support or professional WordPress developer" hidden link
Can I have your permission to deactivate plugins on the site? The issue could be caused by a 3rd party plugin. If you agree, please perform a full backup and let me know so that I could proceed.
The problem is not connected to any of the third-party plugins that are currently installed on your website. Nevertheless, the URL "hidden link" is still indicating as "Not Valid." Could you please contact your domain provider to address this issue? Kindly ensure that you point the domain "hidden link" to your server's IP address. After completing this step, you can revisit the following link: "hidden link" to check if the problem has been resolved.
I have check with sitegournd and they said that the JP domain is set up correctly and pointed to their servers so not a problem with DNS configuration. They have said everything is fine on their end.
When I set a 'different domain per language)- and click save- sometimes it shows as the jp site being 'valid'- and sometimes its showing as 'not valid'....
What else cold be causing this as can't really progress if the translations are going to work...
Another thing I have noticed with the HOMEPAGE- is when we update it and translate it into Japanese sometimes it as automatically reverting back to the older English version. This doesn't seem to happen with any other page
Thanks!
Jamie
