Background of the issue:
I'm working on optimizing all my pages for technical SEO and browsing/conversion optimization. We are going to have our German site proofread by a native speaker, but I expect to update the pages afterwards in terms of layout. Texts will remain the same. We use duplicate pages for translations to ensure quick caching.
Symptoms:
I need to update/re-duplicate pages while keeping the proofread translations intact.
Questions:
Is there a way to keep the proofread translations intact while updating/re-duplicating the pages?
Do I understand correct, that you are using the WordPress-Editor for creating the translations?
If so, then there should usually not be an issue with updating the original content, as long the translation is not longer marked as a duplicate.
A duplicate will always be overwritten if the original content is updated.
To disconnect a duplicate form its original content you need to open the translated content inside the WordPress Editor and click "Translate independenly" inside the right sidebar.
Now you will be able to update the original content without overwriting the translations. From there on both contents are managed independently in each language.
