Hello, we have 2 languages on our site: Croatian (default) and English.

We would like to make English the default, and after that, duplicate the products from English to Albanian and remove the Croatian language completely.

In a previous conversation with WPML support, we were told that one way is to use WP All Import and Export explained at the following links:
- https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/wpml-all-import-plugin-website-import-with-wpml/

Link to previous WPML support conversation: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/splitduplicating-product/

Our question is: Does that mean we have to?
1. export all English (products, categories, pages, Elementor templates, taxonomies, tags, attributes, posts...)
2. Delete all content on the page for BOTH languages before import
3. Change English to be the default language on the page
4. Import everything previously listed that was exported (Is it necessary to import in some order?)
5. Open Albanian as a new language on the page
6. Duplicate all products from English to Albanian

If we have missed something or stated it wrong, please confirm.

Also, on step 4, is it necessary to import in a certain order, for example categories, tags, attributes and then products?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML Support, I will be happy to help you.

I checked your website and I noticed that the English version of your website is actually showing Albanian language, could you please tell me how is that happening (did you use Albanian language on the English version instead of English)?

* From the debug log you provided I notice that English is the default language on your website, is that correct?

Please, let me first understand better the situation of your website and then we can proceed with the language switching that you want to achieve.

Looking forward to your reply,
Marsel

It's true. We switched English as the default language as a temporary solution for the reason that we wanted the search engine to open the English language first and not the Croatian language.

However, since this is a clone page of another main Croatian site on the dcbeauty.hr domain, all English products are related to the original Croatian language.

As a temporary solution, we translated some pages such as the homepage into Albanian, but now we want to do as we wrote in the first message. Completely remove the Croatian language and set the English language and products as default, and then duplicate them in the Albanian language.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Based on the information provided and the links you shared, here's a basic step-by-step guide for transitioning your site from Croatian as the default language to English, and duplicating products to Albanian:

* Note: Before proceeding, make sure to backup your website to avoid any potential data loss.

First suggestion without using any additional plugin/s:

- Set the English as default language by going to WPML -> Languages -> Site Languages section
- Delete all content from the Croatioan translation (taxonomies, posts, pages, products etc.)
- Remove Croatioan from website by going to WPML -> Languages -> Site Languages section
- Go to WPML -> Languages and add the Albanian language
- Translate content as instructed from the video in your previous ticket: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/splitduplicating-product/#post-14375237

This way would be .

------

Second suggestion using WP All Export/Export plugins:

1) Export all English content:

Use WP All Export to export products, categories, pages, taxonomies, tags, attributes, and posts in English.

2) Delete all content on the page for BOTH languages (Croatian and English).
* Ensure you have a backup in case you need to revert.

3) Set English to be the default language:

Go to WPML -> Languages -> Site Languages section and set English as the default language for your site.

4) Import everything previously exported from the English language using WP All Import plugin. While importing, you may want to follow a logical order such as categories, tags, attributes, and then products. This can help in avoiding dependency issues.

Documentation link: https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/wpml-all-import-plugin-website-import-with-wpml/

5) Add Albanian as a new language by going to WPML -> Languages -> Site Languages section.

6) Duplicate all products from English to Albanian:

- Following the instructions from the video shared from my colleague on your previous ticket, could be a best option (even though I noticed you have a lot of products which will need to be duplicated manually): https://wpml.org/forums/topic/splitduplicating-product/#post-14375237

- As for the order of import, starting with taxonomies (categories, tags, attributes) and then importing products is generally a good practice to handle dependencies.

---

* Additional Notes:

- Check for any custom fields or additional settings that might be language-specific and need to be configured accordingly.

- Test the process on a staging environment to avoid potential issues on the live site.

However, specific requirements may vary based on your site structure and dependencies, so it's recommended to test and adjust accordingly.

Let me know if you have any more questions,
Marsel
