Background of the issue:
I've got an Elementor gallery in an Elementor template, that shows the dynamic tag 'Media attachments'. That Elementor template is attached to my custom ACF type 'boats'. That type has 8 image fields, all of which have been set to 'copy' in WPML. This works properly for the original (NL), and also seems to work OK for Spanish, but not for English, which only shows one image in the gallery.

Symptoms:
The Elementor gallery does not show all images for the English translation, only one image appears.

Questions:
How am I supposed to get the media attachments to copy from the original to the translation?

Hi,

do you have a staging environment where I can take a look at your settings?

I would eventually also need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to your site
– preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible –
in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed

Your next answer will be private which means only you and I have access to it.

❌ Please backup your database and website ❌

✙ I would additionally need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme, and to change configurations on the site. This is also a reason the backup is really important.

✙ Please add the Links to the […] Edit Screen, the Page/Post where you insert the […] and the corresponding Front End Page/Screen

Best Regards,
Marcel

I don't currently have a public facing staging site, so it's either the actual site, or nothing.

I'm going to make a full backup, and then send you a login.

Sure! Otherwise, you can also use a plugin such as "WP Staging" to provide a clone directly on your live-site.

Thanks! So the the affected gallery is managed outside the template. The ACF fields don’t even appear in the backend of the hidden link.

Is there a specific reason why you set the ACF Field Group itself to “Translate”? This setting is usually only necessary if you actually want to translate the backend labels: WPML Errata – ACF Field Group should be set as not translatable.

Does this apply to your use-case?

Best regards,
Marcel

Hi Marcel,

I'm not sure what you mean by "the affected gallery is managed outside the template".
The boat template (hidden link) contains the gallery that shows the "post image attachments".

The core of the problem is that the image attachments do not appear to be updated along with the image fields, even though the image fields have all been set to "copy".
The image fields being set to copy is - I assume - also the reason they don't show up in the English version, right? They don't need to translated.

If I check in the database, the English image fields are all set correctly. Also, if I include a specific image field in the template it shows up for English just fine. It's just the attachments that are giving me trouble.

As far as the Field Groups' translation goes: I have no idea why they're set as translatable. I think the field labels have been translated, but all of it is managed by the same person who speaks English, Spanish and Dutch. Does it hurt to set them as translatable? Does it have something to do with the current problem?

Thanks,

Menno

Hi Menno,

I’m currently unable to access the backend after entering the credentials, it just refreshes back to the login screen.

What I meant earlier is that the affected ACF fields in the shared link were not filled on the page itself. You can compare them with the original language version to see the difference. For more detailed checks or direct links, I’ll need backend access to be working again.

The core of the problem is that the image attachments do not appear to be updated along with the image fields, even though the image fields have all been set to "copy".

Yes, even with the “Copy” setting, the values should appear in the backend, but they did not when checked. This points more towards an ACF configuration issue, likely related to the naming of internal system fields, which we can review next.

It should not break anything, but leaving Field Groups as translatable can lead to duplicates or fields getting out of sync across languages. Unless you specifically need them translatable, we recommend turning it off.

Best Regards,
Marcel

Hi Marcel,

The credentials I posted still work fine; I just tried logging in as the wpml user, and it worked without a hitch. Are you maybe getting redirected to one of the alternative domains? Those are all fronts for the same WordPress, but obviously cookies don't carry over.

Within the database I can see that the field translations for EN look OK. I'm not sure why they don't show up in the backend. You can verify the values in there by just popping an image field in the boat template, and linking it to one of the fields.

I suppose it's probably best to turn of the field group translation if it has the potential to create a mess. Don't want to do that without a quick extra backup ahead of making the change though :S.

Hi Menno,

Thanks! The login is working now. The issue wasn’t that the credentials were marked as incorrect — the page was simply refreshing while submitting them (without showing an error about invalid credentials).

I also wanted to review the EN example I mentioned earlier, but it seems to have been deleted and is now in the trash:
hidden link.

I tried checking another product, and the gallery looks fine hidden link. Did you make any additional changes, or did you adjust it manually?
If not, do you have another example we could use for testing?

Best regards,
Marcel
