Hi,
I am having difficulty selecting the right section of the website for the translations.
Evry time we do a test file we have a problem, from missing text to having text that has been canceled and still appears in the translation file.
My question:
- Is it possible to have some support to select the text to translate from the WordPress menu?
If this is not possible or you are not able to help :
What will happen if I select all the voices available in the options menu, and manually delete all the parts I don't want to be translated from the translations file?
If you are talking about WPML > String Translation, you should not do translation for all the texts there.
You focus on the page translation, and then check the front end of the website, if you see text which is outside of the content of the page, and if it is not a header/footer template, such as Elementor template (as they have another r method of translation), simply search for the tat text in string translation and translate that specific text.
If it is not what you meant, please give me more context with example so I can now what you do.
Thanks a million for reaching out. First of all, let me say that I am not by any means a Dev, so forgive me if my explanations are limited. We are using this tool as advised by our translation company but I am having quite a difficult time.
Coming back to the question, Unfortunately, no.
What I mean is that when I send files for translations I have 2 different scenarios at the moment, depending on the web page :
1) I have missing text ( Immagine 1 ) all the text that you see in the picture is not present in the document for translations.
2) I have previously deleted text in the document appear as to be translated/ as present in the document
I tried to select different fields from the settings ( Immagine 2 ) but even though the situation improved I was not able to have a satisfying result.
So a possible solution I thought is to select all the fields in the settings menu and manually remove the text I don't want to be translated from the file I get.
I know this is extremely laborious, but if it may work I am ok with it.
It seems that your website is created by Advanced Custom Fields judging the screenshot you shared.
That is why let's fist establish a few things:
1- Make sure that you installed and setup the Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual plugin which is a necessary one to make WPML compatible with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin.
2- You can install it by going to WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Commercial (tab), select it and click the Download button.
3- Make sure that you go to WordPress Dashboard > ACF and enter the Custom Field Groups there and set the top translation mode to "Same fields across languages".
4- The step above will set all the settings correctly and you do not need to go to WordPress Dashboard > WPML > Settings > Custom Field Translation and you do not need to change anything there.
5. Finally, I do suggest that you take time and read this document that explains in details the process:
I understand that it can be time consuming but it will save time for the later page translations.
If the problem persists, I'd appreciate it if you could give me the URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard after you make sure that you have a backup of your website.
It is absolutely important that you give us a guarantee that you have a backup so if something happens you will have a point of restore.
Make sure you set the next reply as private.
And please tell me which page to check for translation.
