[Resolved] I want to display the language switcher dropdown menu as 1 line
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is trying to display the language switcher dropdown menu as a single line, and the dropdown icon appears as a box instead of the typical dropdown icon. Additionally, there is an issue where the WPML plugin cannot connect to wpml.org. Solution: For the dropdown menu and icon style issue, it is influenced by the Elementor Header & Footer Builder plugin. We recommend deactivating this plugin, clearing the cache, and checking if the issue persists. Additionally, use the following custom CSS to correct the dropdown icon style:
If this resolves the issue, please contact Elementor Header & Footer Builder support for further assistance. For the connection issue with wpml.org, ensure that your server can reach external websites and that there are no firewall settings blocking the connection.
Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Tell us what you are trying to do?
I want to display the language switcher dropdown menu as 1 line
and the dropdown icon on the menu is actually a box, not like the dropdown icon
Is there any documentation that you are following?

Thank you for contacting WPML support, I’m happy to help you with this issue.
The dropdown menu appearance could be affected by a third-party plugin or a theme. You can try to enable a minimal environment as below and recheck this issue:
- Deactivate all non-WPML plugins.
- Switch to a standard theme of WordPress.
❌ IMPORTANT: Please backup your database and website before proceeding ❌
While checking the debug info, I see that the WordPress Memory Limit is below the requirements. The minimum requirements are 128M, but we do recommend 256M and the debug information of your site shows it set to 40M. Please check this link for more details https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/.
You can increase it by adding the following code in your wp-config.php file, right before the /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */ line:
there is still no way and there is no change in the appearance of the dropdown menu. If I look at the inspect element it shows that the padding is too big, also for vertical Chinese writing, can it be adjusted via CSS?
Additionally, why doesn't the icon appear? However, when using a shortcode (wpml selector widget) the icon can be seen
The style of the dropdown menu and icon is affected by the plugin Elementor Header & Footer Builder on your site. You can try to deactivate this plugin, clear the cache and check the issue again.
Meanwhile, you can try to use the custom CSS code below to fix the issue
I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to have a testing site where the issue is replicated. Your next reply is set to private to share the info.
❌ IMPORTANT: Please backup your database and website before proceeding ❌
You can use this plugin to create the backup: https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
✙ I would need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme to change configurations on the site if needed. This is also a reason the backup is critical.
This is an issue with the dropdown icon of the plugin Elementor Header & Footer Builder on your site. I test to add a menu item to a current menu item to show the submenu, and the issue also occurs.
If I go to Appearance > Elementor Header & Footer Builder > Edit the template "Header Menu RE" > change the menu dropdown icon to Plus Sign (+), then it displays properly in the frontend.
You can also deactivate WPML for a while and double-check this issue. If it works on your end, please get in touch with the plugin Elementor Header & Footer Builder support to get further assistance.
I managed to solve the problem of the box-shaped dropdown icon by calling font awesome via custom CSS
/* Add Awesome Fonts */
@import url('hidden link');,
thanks for any help in advance
There is something I want to ask again, I have also tried to solve it by looking at several similar problems that other people have gone through but I still haven't been able to solve it. Please help, namely in my dashboard display there is a display like the following
