Please see the attached video. Notice that our ewww image optimizer plugin has not YET created a .webp for some images on our site. Although, when accessing a translated version of our website, all images inheret the .webp extension (even if they do not exist).

This is directly relative to ewww image optimizer. When I disable this plugin, all images begin working.

See Video Here: hidden link

Additionally, why is this added to the end of a translated domain?

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting WPML support.

You mentioned "When I disable this plugin, all images begin working.", may I know which plugin did you disabled? WPML or EWW?

As for the xdomain_data issue, could you refer to this ticket and see if it helps? https://wpml.org/forums/topic/xdomain_data-in-the-url/

1.) The image issue is resolved when disabling ewww image optimizer, which of course removes all .webp delivery from the site. The simple issue is that WPML "assumes" ALL images are webp when this plugin is installed. Therefore any NON converted images are NOT delivered correctly

2.) RESOLVED

Thanks for your reply.

It looks like some options from the EWW plugin are causing issues with the images on your Website. Since everything went well when that plugin is deactivated, you need to check with the plugin author as there only you'll get the best solution for your issues.

Let me know how it goes.

I think you have the wrong perspective. The problem also does NOT occur when I disable WPML... so should I contact you?

The image work fine on ellasbubbles.com (English - Standard), and break when accessing ellasbubbles.mx (the translated version offered by WPML).

I recommend reaching out to the plugin Developer and orienting a fix as this is the most popular Webp image service on WordPress

Thanks for your reply.

I would need to take a closer look at your site. So I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed.

IMPORTANT: Please, note, a backup is required for security reasons, and to avoid any data loss, you can use the https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/plugin for these backup needs.

Your following answer will be private, which means only you and I have access to it.

✙ I would need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme and to change configurations on the site if required. This is also a reason the backup is critical.

So this single option here will resolve the issue:

I do have a compatibility question however. If my images are duplicated via Media Translation, will those be fed to EWWW to convert to webp and serve?

Thanks for your reply.

Glad that you sorted it out. Sorry, I don't have the information regarding the Webp question that you're referring to. However, the EWWW plugin is fully compatible with WPML https://wpml.org/documentation/plugins-compatibility/optimizing-images-on-wpml-powered-sites-using-ewww-image-optimizer/

Also, I'd like you to know that WPML Media Translation doesn’t duplicate any files on your site. Duplication here means that new entries are created in the database with your translated image captions, titles, meta text, and other information. https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/media-translation/#id5

But you can give it a try to see how EWWW manages the webp images.
