Background of the issue:
I am experiencing difficulties in managing my multilingual website using WPML. My goal is to have WPML automatically generate a corresponding 'translation' as an identical copy of the original content whenever I create and publish new content. I will handle the actual translation later. It's crucial that no automatic translation takes place.
Symptoms:
I couldn't find a clear approach in the knowledge base to achieve my goal.
Questions:
How can I set up WPML to automatically generate an identical copy of the original content as a 'translation' without automatic translation?
Thank you for contacting WPML Support. If you want WPML to display content in secondary languages without automatic translation, you have two options:
1. Fallback to Default Language:
Go to WPML >> Settings > Post Types Translation and set post types to "Translatable – use translation if available or fallback to default language."
This way, if a translation isn’t available, the original language content will be displayed automatically.
2. Duplicate content:
Go to WPML >> Translation Management, select your pages/posts, and duplicate them into secondary languages.
However, this needs to be done manually each time new content is added, as WPML does not automate this process.
Thanks for your support! I have made the suggested changes in the settings that you outlined in step 1, but unfortunately, I am still unable to open the Translation Memory as described in step 2.
To illustrate the issue, I have attached a screenshot of the website. The TM submenu is completely missing. When I click on the main WPML menu item, I am redirected to a page with an error message and a blank screen.
Interestingly, I have WPML installed on another website, where everything is working perfectly. This leads me to believe that the issue is specific to this installation. All plugins are up to date on both sites.
I suspect that the missing Translation Memory is the reason why I am unable to copy or manage translations as I used to.
Could you please help me troubleshoot this issue and guide me on how to reactivate the Translation Memory?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards,
Rainer Appel
