Kevin

I've recently noticed a very annoying issue when uploading media.
I don't use media translation in the sense that I don't use the media translation page to upload a translated image.
I want all media that I upload to be available for all languages.

In the past, this was the case. I uploaded images, and could see these in all languages, both in the media library and when writing content (posts/pages). Sometimes I use the same media in all languages, and I only upload it once.

Now, doesn't matter what language I upload, I keep having issues seeing the uploaded media in other languages. Some media does show, other doesn't. Sometimes switching from All media to a specific month in the library, it shows media, then it doesn't.

I just want to upload media, and have that media available everywhere 🙁

do I need to remove the media translation add-on?

Any troubleshooting help is welcome. I don't see any errors in the browser console or server logs...

Hi Kevin 🙂

Even though the media is missing from the library, can you create a test page with an image and create translations to see if it works on the front-end?

Also, what settings do you have on WPML->Settings->Media Translation? Can you disable the options “Automatically detect best options for translating image texts (alt, caption, title)” and try to upload a image and see if it helps?

If the above doesn’t help, To debug this issue further, I would need to check your site settings once, for this I would need temporary access (wp-admin and ftp) to your site.

So could you please provide me with those details, you will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.

hi Shekhar,

I typed out a long response going through my whole process and when I clicked submit something failed and it didn't send it. I think my session timed out or something.

To summarize:

I did a bunch of tests uploading in different languages in Media > Library and also while writing and translating page/post. Media uploaded to one language wasn't showing in the others. The only media I could see in all languages was the one I inserted into the post/page before using the `Duplicate` option when translating.

I then disabled the “Automatically detect best options for translating image texts (alt, caption, title)” option and did some more tests. Media uploaded to any language would appear in the media library independently of what language I was using, as expected.

So the “Automatically detect best options for translating image texts (alt, caption, title)” option does seem to cause the issue. Any idea why this would be happening? As far as I understand it, the option should not cause media to not be available on other languages...

Hi there,

We recently added this option to WPML. It automatically decides if the media needs duplications or not. You might find the missing images, but it should work properly on the front-end. We want to avoid unnecessary duplications using this feature, so you can learn more about it here: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/media-translation/

I also suggest checking the FAQ section for more information.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thanks

I want to add myself to this discussion as I am noticing the problem as well. Once the "automatic" feature is enabled almost all lanugages show different media in the libray (970 for en, 914 for de, 240 for tr, etc.). I want to see all media in all languages.
