This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are trying to sync menus from English to other languages on your site, but you encounter issues where top menu items are duplicated and submenus are in the wrong order.
Solution:
First, ensure that the Spanish menu appears correctly by checking it on your staging site. You can manage the translations of menu strings via String Translation or by editing the Spanish menu directly in Appearance -> Menus.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we recommend opening a new support ticket. Additionally, please check related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verify the version of the permanent fix, and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I am trying to sync menus from the original language English to other languages on my site hidden link. I have used the menu sync feature and made small changes to attempt syncing again. Custom translations will be entered for all languages. You can view the current state on our staging site hidden link where Spanish has been synced.

Symptoms:
Menus are not syncing correctly. Top menu items are duplicated and submenus are sometimes in the wrong order.

Questions:
Why are the top menu items duplicated after syncing?
Why are the submenus in the wrong order after syncing?

The suggested plugin updates do not appear on our site, despite being on latest WP.

I am happy to share login details to the site.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.

I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP)
Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.

❌ Please back up your database and website ❌

✙ I need your permission to deactivate and reactivate the plugins and themes and change site configurations. This is also why the backup is critical.

✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.

Best regards,
Osama

Almost. The Accessories is the wrong position. See image.

Just for clarify; I intend to translate the site to around 30 languages and the sync of positions etc needs to be automatic. Too much/unneccessary work to do manual fixes. 🙂

Hi,

Here are my steps:

1- I cleared the WPML cache in WPML-> Support-> Troubleshooting
2- Deleted the Spanish menu
3- Synced the menu using WPML-> WP Menu Sync

After that, the menu was created correctly in Spanish, but there was a minor re-arrangement issue.

In order to debug the issue further, please try the following steps:

1- Update WPML plugins to the latest version
2- Deactivate all the plugins except WPML CMS and String Translation
3- Switch to the Divi parent theme
4- Delete the Spanish menu
5- Go WPML-> WP Menu Sync
6- Check the created Spanish menu

Best regards,
Osama

Thanks again. None of the WPML plugins seem to be up for update. See screenshot.
What do I need to do?

Thanks Osama. The menus however appear multiple time - one line for each language - where I would have expected just the English then + for other languges.
I translated to Main menu to Finnish...but it does not publish.

See attached image.

Appreciate your help!
Rikard

Hi,

You can translate the "Main menu menu" Text-Domain. (hidden link)

Please translate the strings there and check if they are translated on the front end.

Please try translating them manually on the staging site to check if they will work correctly. Then, you can translate them automatically on the live site.

Best regards,
Osama

Hi agaain,

I have now actually moved to Production site. Hope that is OK for you.

The first thing that appears is on String translation is "To translate strings automatically, by your translators or a translation service, use the Translation Dashboard."

I use the automatic translation for Italian and What to monitor.
It appears to be translated in Translation Mgmt. However on Appearance / Menus it still shows as not translated (same on site).
See images.

Further, Any explanation to why Main Menu appears multiple times in Appearance (as described in previous post)?

Many thanks.
