No, it will not. We used the copy of your site that you sent us to install it on a local server. We are not logged in or doing anything on your server.

Hi,

Our second-tier supporter states that if you were using different images per language, it may not work. That means that if you were using our Media translation add-on to switch images on the translated products, after the reset, it is impossible to recover those images, and you will need to update the products and manually upload the missing images.

Also, what you did after the reset with the products in other languages is unclear.
Did you leave the images and translated products or delete them?

-Yes, I was using the media translation a lot because I had a lot of images with text in them. But a lot of the images that went missing weren't translated (wasn't necessary because there was no text in them)

-I didn't do anything after the reset. But I went to check my media library (I went through the entire library) and couldn't find back the translated images. Maybe the reset deleted them by default? Can you please verify if this is how it should be, and if there's not maybe some type of folder with the translated images left in my Cpanel?

Hi,

You asked:

I conducted a test on my WPML and WooCommerce test site. I used Media Translation to switch/translate a product image for one of the products. Then I reset WPML and checked the Media Library. The translated image is still there after the reset. It is also available in the /wp-content/uploads/ folder (the WordPress media folder).

-Okay but I did the reset, and after that also deactivated all the WPML related plugins, and even deleted them. Does the deactivation and deleting of these plugins delete all the translated images maybe? I'm asking because I want to make sure these translated images don't take up storage space on my site.

Hi,

You asked: "Does the deactivation and deleting of these plugins delete all the translated images maybe?"

No.

You also added: "I'm asking because I want to make sure these translated images don't take up storage space on my site."

If you don't see them in the media library, in the /wp-content/uploads/ folder, or in any other place in your WordPress installation they don't take up any space.

I didn't see them in the in the media library, but in the /wp-content/uploads/ it's hard to check because of how many images there are, and it doesn't show what the actual image looks like. Is there any faster way to check? Or does the fact that they weren't in my media library already mean that they also aren't in the /wp-content/uploads/ ?

As far as I know, if they are in the /wp-content/uploads/ folder, they should be in the media library. But you may have configurations that I'm unaware of. I don't know how you are checking the /uploads/ folder. If you have there an option to search, you can search for a specific media file name.

Okay thanks, I think the translated images must be deleted then. But that still doesn't fix the original issue of this thread.

Hi,

In this ticket, we deal with the issue "Missing product images after a WPML reset".
I'm sorry if I missed something. Which original issue of this thread do you mean, please?

That the images of many products were missing in the PRIMARY LANGUAGE.

Hi,

I've made another attempt to install a copy of your site on my local server, but it failed. I consulted our second-tier supporter again. We need to see the missing images on a URL to see if images are completely removed, URLs are wrong, etc.

Do you still have products on your site with missing images because of the WPML reset?
If so, please send me the link for one of those products.

No, I reuploaded them all manually.
Some products that were suffering from the issue were:
-Hondenharnas met gepersonaliseerde tekst
-Roze kattenbed
-Grijs en blauw dierenhuis

Hi,

Here is the response from our second-tier supporter.

If you did not delete the content before reset, all the content should be there after the RESET. WPML does not delete anything in the reset process except its DB tables and options. All the posts/terms/attachments stay in DB but lose all the associated language data. Thus making all the content appear in a single language. In this case, the problem seems not to be WPML but something else.

As I mentioned several times, I tried to install a copy of your site on my local server and failed. The package you sent us is huge. I can escalate this issue to our second-tier supporters, and they may have better luck and tolls than me and may be able to install your site and continue to debug this issue. At this point, all the indications lead to WPML not being the cause of this problem. We also don't have any similar reports from other users. We are willing to make another effort to validate this.

However, since you said that you already corrected this problem on your site by manually uploading the missing product images, I want to ask you if you think there is a point we'll continue investigating this issue?

I'm waiting for your reply.

Regards,
Itamar.
