Hello,
I am to WPML, so I apologize if this is so trivial. Basically I have a site with English as default language an Spanish as secondary language. There are some pages that I intentionally did not translate to Spanish because I want to keep them 100% in En (say Home page). Now, If I am on a page that is displayed in Spanish (say product page), and the I go to Home page, I get a 404 error. I assume the following configuration would automatically redirect me to home page in EN instead of 404 but it is not working that way.. am I missing something ?
WPML >> Language switcher options>> How to handle languages without translation >> Link to home of language for missing translations

thanks
Sam

Hi there,

To be able to understand the setup that you have would you please kindly provide the debug information?

- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > WPML > Support > Debug Information (Link)".
- Copy the Debug Information from there.
- Find the "Additional Data" section below this chat. (Check the screenshot below)
- Click on the "Debug Info" item to expand it.
- Paste the debug information into the text area.
- Click the "Send Debug Info" button.

Also, please go to "WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Reading" and see if there is a notice in red color that the homepage does not have a translation.

If that is the case would you please temporarily select another page for the homepage of the website and see if it fixes the issue.

Thank you.

Hello,
I guess there is a disconnect. I do know that my home page is NOT translated yet, and I really do not want to translate it at all for now. my question is that if I come to this Home page from a page that is already translated, I get a 404 error (apparently because home page is not translated). I was wondering if this behavior (in general, not only for home page) can be changed so the plugin redirects to the "untranslated" version of that page if no translation exists instead of throwing 404 .. is that possible?

Hi there,

I assume that you click on the menu item to go to the home. If the menu is translated and synced WPML should redirect you to the English version.

Please kindly follow the menu translation and syncing documentation:

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/

If you still have a problem, I'd appreciate it if you could give me the URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard after you make sure that you have a backup of your website, just in case something happens, you will have a point of restore.

The next reply will be private.
