Hi,

I purchased the €99 yearly plan, but since the website is larger, I’m now being asked to pay an additional €350 in credits, which was not something I had anticipated at the time of purchase.

My client is asking for clarity on two points:
1. Is WPML 99 eur + these additional credit costs something that needs to be paid every year?
2. Is there any discount or alternative pricing available for credits? WPML is critical for our project, but the extra credits at this level are currently not affordable for us.

I’d appreciate your clarification and any possible solution you can suggest.

Thank you,
Zakaria Guismi

Hello Zakaria,

The yearly plan for WPML Multilingual CMS of 99€ allows you to register 3 sites and provides updates and support as long as you are subscribed.

Source: https://wpml.org/purchase/

New accounts receive 90.000 free credits for automatic translation.

Automatic translation is not freely available inside WPML, as this feature relies on AI, in this case, LLMs that act as a translation engine:

WPML uses the translation engine PTC by default because it produces the most accurate results. However, you can switch to other engines like Google Translate, DeepL, or Microsoft Azure in WPML → Settings. These alternatives are cheaper but produce less accurate translations.

PTC’s Translation Quality Guarantee doesn’t cover Azure, Google Translate, and DeepL. If you’re using PTC and aren’t satisfied with the quality of the translations, let us know. We’ll do our best to fix the issue for you. If we can’t, we’ll refund 100% of what you paid for PTC translation. This guarantee only applies to PTC (the default engine). It does not apply to other engines like Google, DeepL, or Microsoft Azure.

About pricing for automatic translation:

The most economical way to use credits for automatic translation is the Pay-As-You-Go subscription, which allows you to use credits and then pay the amount used in the next month.

More details about pricing and a price calculator can be found here:

Best regards
Andreas

Hello,

We only plan to use WPML for one website.

Could you please confirm the following to make sure we fully understand the pricing:

After paying approximately €350 for the current automatic translations (one-time credit usage), will we still need to renew the WPML Multilingual CMS license for €99 next year?

And if so, will any additional costs after that be limited only to Pay-As-You-Go credits for new pages or blog posts we create in the future (i.e. no recurring translation charges unless we translate new content)?

Also since it's just a 1 production website can we downgrade to 39 eur plan?

This is our website: hidden link

Thank you for clarifying.

Best regards,
Zakaria

Downgrading to a Multilingual Blog might not be an option for you, as you will lose a lot of features. Automatic translation is not possible with this account.

https://wpml.org/purchase/

The pricing for WPML Multilingual is annual, but for renewals, you will pay with your current plan only 69€.

This plan included free credits. Any additional credits usage will be charged.

What is unclear to me at the moment is whether your account has recevied 60.000 free credits, while wpml.org states that a new account recvied 90.000 credits. I will follow up with you, as I need to consult the team about this.

Your site currently has 62000 available credits. I do not see any credit usage on this account yet.

Have you been charged for credits?

Hello Andreas,

We purchased the WPML Multilingual CMS plan specifically because it states that new accounts receive 90,000 free automatic translation credits.

At the moment, our account shows approximately 62,000 credits, with no credits used so far. We have also not been charged for any translations yet.

Could you please clarify why the full 90,000 free credits have not been applied to our account, and confirm whether the remaining credits will be added?

Additionally, to confirm our understanding:

- The WPML Multilingual CMS renewal will be €69 per year with 62,000 free credits.

- Any further charges will only occur if we choose to translate new content using Pay-As-You-Go credits.

Thank you for confirming this.

Best regards,

Thank you for reaching out!

Take kindly note that my workweek is from Tuesdays to Saturdays, which is why I did not reply within the last two days.

I was following up about this with our systems team, and it resulted in 90k credits being available on your wpml.org account all this time. It looks like you simply assigned 60k credits first and today made another deposit of 30k to the site.

See screenshot.

Could you please clarify if the 90k credits were available on your account all the time?

Hi Andreas,

All set on our side now, thank you!

I just have a quick clarification regarding Pay-As-You-Go pricing. In our WordPress dashboard, it shows a cost of €105 for Pay-As-You-Go translation for 144,492 words (288,984 credits) using DeepL.

However, when I check the Pay-As-You-Go pricing page, the cost for the same word count and the same translation engine appears to be €570, which is confusing.

Before proceeding, could you please confirm that if I move forward from the WordPress dashboard, we will be charged €105 as shown there, and not €570?

Thank you for confirming.

Best regards,
Zakaria

To answer this question I need some more details about your site:

It would also be very helpful if you could send us the WPML troubleshooting information.

More information can be found here:

---

Your calculation on wpml.org is for 1.7 million credits, as you translate into 6 languages.

According to your screenshot, only 196k credits are needed.

Further, using Pay-As-You-Go is cheaper than pre-purchasing credit packages.

This is an approximate value, as WPML's translation memory can reduce the need for automatic translation, as it auto-completes identical segments that have been translated.
