Background of the issue:
I have two domains, admin.shopvend.com and shopvend.com, both registered with WPML and using the same database. I am trying to manage translations across both sites.
Symptoms:
The translation management is not working on both sites. Each time I try to enable it on one of them, it keeps getting disabled, and I receive the notification 'WPML detected a new address for this site'.
Questions:
How can I enable translation management on both sites without it getting disabled?
How can we maintain both websites on the same database without issues?
Hello,
I selected this option but after a short time the same message keeps appearing again
'WPML detected a new address for this site'
both sites on same db
I'd appreciate it if you could give me the URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard after you make sure that you have a backup of your website.
It is absolutely important that you give us a guarantee that you have a backup so if something happens you will have a point of restore.
Thank you. I already got the email from the previous message and managed to login.
Ok this is a weird setup and I do not think it is possible to use both.
I went to the admin site and as a test changed something on the download page. Added an extra !. (screenshot)
Then the change is also shown on the shop page. I have never seen such setup.
So the problem is that the site is exactly the same! It is not a copy of the previous website.
So when a new domain is detected the WPML plugin adds proper settings in the database. But the database changes is now for the current domain, but the same database is also approached with another domain and that confuses WPML.
I do not think it is possible to use WPML on both website with this scenario.
To be 100% certain I asked the second-tieer support and will get back to you with a definitive answer.
I have an answer. This seems to be also raised by another customer that had a setup like yours.
We will provide a feature in WPML 4.7 release that you will be able to enable the domain and get rid of the copy/move box. (Check the screenshot)
It is not available at the moment, and I do not have an ETA for version 4.7 release as it will be a major one and it needs extensive testing process.
For now, you need to live with clicking the copy option each time if you want to change something or you can using only one domain for your edits for the time being.
Our second-tier team suggested a database change in WPML tables that might make your websites work for now.
Would you please get back to us with the message that you completely backed up the website and your permission to install a plugin to access your website database so I can perform the command?
And please unregister and register WPML after that. All the details are mentioned int he documentation above.
Thanks.
