Background of the issue:
I’m trying to use WPML to translate a BuddyPress-based WordPress site. When I try to access a BuddyPress page in a translated language (for example, hidden link), I get a 404 error.

Symptoms:
Translated BuddyPress pages return a 404 error and some theme strings do not appear on the frontend.

Questions:
Is there any known conflict with BuddyPress?
Do I need a specific configuration to fix the 404 issue and ensure all strings are translatable and visible on the frontend?
