Tell us what you are trying to do?

Is there any documentation that you are following?

Is there a similar example that we can see?Hi,

I’m hoping you can help.

I’m having an issue with translating alt text, caption, description on images when using the Advance image field from metabox.

I’m using the “Advance image field” as a gallery. Images are uploaded on the english side. the Field/images are “copied once” to the french side. If I edit the meta information on the French side, it syncs back to the english page.

I have gone through the process of duplicating the media in “settings > Media Translation”

All other text fields translate ok as well as the alt text, caption, description on the posts featured image.

All plugins are upto date.

I have deactivated all plugins and switched to Twenty Twenty theme to test.

Happy to supply logins if that helps.

What is the link to your site?

Thanks

Ben

Hello,

If you set the custom fields for the images to "Copy once" then this behavior appears to be expected.

I would suggest you set the fields to "Translate".

Guide:

Then edit the Gallery on one of your contents, save the page, and open the translation editor.

Do you see now the image meta information on the WPML Translation Editor?

If so, please try translating them and let me know if this does not solve the issue.

Best regards
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for the reply. I've gone through the steps and unfortunately I'm still getting the same results. I've recorded my screen to show where I'm having problems.

Happy to share site logins if that helps?

Hello,

This Metabox Gallery does not really include the image meta strings - it is only pulling them from the database.

Does the issue persist, if you translate the image meta-information directly inside the WordPress Media Library?

To test this, please go to your media library and switch the language in the top admin bar. Now edit the image's meta information and revise the original image in the default language.

If the issue persists, then please revise WPML > Settings > Post Type Translation and make sure that "Media (attachment)" is set to "Translatable - only show translated items".

Guide:

If this will still not solve the issue, then please let me know.

Best regards
Andreas

Hi,

It's working direct in the media library. However, is there a way to extend this to the metabox gallery on the post?

Thanks

Hello,

I understand your concerns, but this actually depends on the Metabox plugin and not on WPML.

Let me explain:

If you for example add a Gutenberg Image Block, and this block allows you to edit image meta information that it keeps in sync with the media library, then this would work.

This means you are very likely not able to translate the image metadata of this gallery with the WPML Translation Editor as Metabox is not passing this information over - in order to do this, the Metabox gallery would need to have text fields in which you can edit this information and keep those fields in sync with the media library.

As far as I can see, this is not the case:

This might be maybe a feature request for Metabox in this case.
