This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problema:

Hello,

Sometime my client uses a link in the product description to link to another product. The problem is he can't translate the link. So it points to the default language instead of the language that the visitor is currently in.

Please check this screenrecording: hidden link

Is it possible that product links are automaticalll linked to the translate product? If not, how to translate these links since they are not visible in the translation manager? My client needs to be able to manage it. So translating with strings is not an option and also not efficient.

Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. I watched the video you sent, and there are two ways we can approach the issue you're facing:

1. Automatically translating links in bulk: Please go to WPML > Settings > Scan now and adjust links (please note that this method might not work with all themes);
2. If the above method does not work as intended, you can simply search the link directly in the translation editor of the product. Please check this documentation, for more details:
https://wpml.org/announcements/2020/02/translating-links-with-advanced-translation-editor/

Let me know how it goes 🙂

Hi,

I just implemented suggestion 1. Almost none of the links are translated. I understand that we can translate via the translation manager but this is a lot of work and error-prone.

How is it that WPML often does not recognize these links in product descriptions and automatically redirects to the translated page?

Thank you for sharing the details. There are numerous reasons, but the most common one is due to child themes or custom code implemented in a website.

WPML, just like any other translation and localization software, requires that the code and the logic implemented in the code, follow international guidelines and conventions, as well as custom hooks that enable a content to be properly identified as translatable.

We have an extensive list that shows every plugin and theme we ensured that follow these requirements:

https://wpml.org/plugin/

https://wpml.org/theme/

I'm sorry that in your case, the links weren't automatically translatable.
