This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing issues with translating product categories using WPML on their website. Specifically, the hierarchy and images of the product categories are not maintained after translation, requiring manual intervention to set these for each translated category.

Solution:
We recommend the following steps to improve the translation process of product categories:
1. Ensure product categories are set as Translatable – only show translated items in WPML → Settings → Taxonomies Translation.
2. Use WPML → Taxonomy Translation to translate category names and slugs.
3. To synchronize the hierarchy, navigate to the Hierarchy Synchronization tab within WPML → Taxonomy Translation and click Update Taxonomy Hierarchy.
4. Manually check and set images for each category translation by editing the category in the desired language and setting the image if it is missing.
5. Utilize WPML → Support → Troubleshooting tools like Sync product taxonomies and Remove ghost entries to help relink categories and images across languages.
6. Clear any site, plugin, or browser cache after these changes.

If these steps do not resolve the issue or if the process still seems inefficient, it may be due to limitations within the current WPML functionality or setup. We recommend checking for any updates or known issues related to this problem at https://wpml.org/known-issues/. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket for further assistance at WPML support forum. We also suggest confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins to ensure compatibility and functionality.

Background of the issue:
I'm translating product categories through Taxonomy Translation on my site hidden link using WPML.

Symptoms:
The hierarchy and images of the product categories are not carried over after translation, requiring manual edits.

Is there a better way to maintain the hierarchy and images when translating product categories?

Please follow the steps described in this section of the guide: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-post-categories-and-custom-taxonomies/#sync-taxonomy-structure to sync the hierarchy automatically after translating the product categories.

Hi there,

Can you elaborate more on what you mean by "this does not help"?
Does it work or doesn't it work?

Nothing has changed with my issue and the article you suggested does not help. The guidance you are suggesting does nothing to resolve the issue.

Hi,

1.- I kindly ask you to describe, step by step, how to reproduce the issue on your site. It would be optimal if you could create a video (using Loom, Komodo, or similar) and share a link here, so I can follow exactly the same steps to see the problem.

2.- Please share the access credentials to your site in your next message, which I have set private. That way, I will be able to follow the steps described in the previous point.

Confirm you have created a full site backup that you can restore if necessary.

I have tried that, and you just donðt seem to get what to me seems so plainly evident that I'm at a loss for how to explain it in terms that you will understand.
But a thought just occurred to me that this is all just a big misunderstanding. What I'm seeing as a horrible, broken system, you see as a perfectly normal system working exactly as designed. So instead of being horribly broken, your system is just horribly poorly designed.
Maybe you see that it is perfectly normal that a translated product category is translated and placed in the root without a picture, even though the original had a picture and was a sub-category.
Perhaps the reason you don't see the problem is that you don't perceive my issue as a problem. Let me assure you that I see it is a horrible problem that my store has to look like crap until I finish translating all the categories, go into the sync function to sync, and then go back into the categories to add pictures to the translated categories.

This is not to mention the annoyance of having your tool complain about the categories being out of sync, just because I fixed things manually, because sync would constantly change a subcategory to a root category.

If you don't understand the description, I don't see how a video will help. Either you're an AI bot that can't exceed its programming, which states it can't get to the next step unless it has a video, or you are just deliberately wasting my time.

Hi there

Thank you for your message – it does help clarify the situation. However, I noticed that you haven’t outlined the exact steps you're following to translate the product category. This is likely where the issue originates, so understanding your process will be key to finding a solution.

To move forward, I’d appreciate it if you could do the following:
- Describe the exact steps you take when translating a product category. A step-by-step breakdown will help me replicate the issue precisely.
- Share temporary access credentials to your site so I can review your WPML configuration. I’ve enabled the next reply to be private, so your information will remain confidential.

Looking forward to your update so we can continue troubleshooting this effectively.
