This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client needed to translate product descriptions from Greek to Bulgarian while keeping English words unchanged. They also inquired about the behavior of the translation memory when deleting and retranslating products.
Solution:
We explained that when the client translates descriptions for products using automatic translation, these translations are saved into the translation memory. If the client edits and corrects a translation for a product, this updated translation is stored in the translation memory. For any new product created with the same description, it will automatically use the newly edited translation. However, for existing products, the client will need to manually update the description to apply the changes from the edited translation.
Regarding the deletion and retranslation of products, the client can delete their translated products and retranslate them without using any credits, provided they do not delete the "primary" language of a product. We advised the client to perform a backup before proceeding.

Thank you for your patience.

I made an error here, and you’re correct about how the translation memory works. Let me clarify:

1. When you translated the descriptions for products A and B using automatic translation, these were saved into the translation memory.

2. You then edited and corrected the translation for product A. This updated translation is now stored in the translation memory.

3. If you create a new product C with the same description as product A, it will automatically use the newly edited translation from product A.

4. However, for the existing product B, you’ll need to manually update the description, as it won’t automatically apply the changes from the edited translation of product A.

Could you try creating a new product with the same description and see if it copies the description from the newly edited translation from product A?

Thank you for your reply!
That clarifies everything! 🙂

I have created a new product with the same description and the translation had all my previous corrections! This means that all my future products will use the same accepted translation, which is great!

Furthermore, I have deleted an already translated product, which I had manually edited the translation, and when I tried to translate it again, the translation was already as expected!

Finally, I have one last question:
If I delete ALL my translated products and proceed on re-translating them again, but without making any changes on the original texts ( thus meaning that the translation memory will be fully used ) will that procedure consume any translation credits?

Thank you again for your time!

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, you can delete your translated products and retranslate them without using any credits. Keep in mind that if you delete the "primary" language of a product, retranslating the product will cost credits.

Also, please backup before you proceed.
