Hi!

The first language for translation is english and this is the URL:
hidden link
I can´t get a translation for the menu and also the header builder, for example the button "TERMIN BUCHEN", is not translated.
Also the footer and the cookie banner are not translated.
What shall I have to do?
I can give you a login for the WordPress backend, if you need. Perhaps it is easier!?

Kind regards, Samy

Hello Samy,
Thanks for contacting WPML Support.

I understand the issue you're having and will try my best to assist you in this matter.

1) Menu Translation: If pages/posts included within the menu have a translation, then you don't need to translate the menu again. In secondary language, the translated version of the page/post will take place in the menu. However, if you want to translate the menu, you can do that by following any of the steps mentioned in this documentation: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/

2) Header Button and Footer Translation: I checked your site and found that the Header and Footer are created using Astra. You should be able to translate the contents from String translation. Here are the steps to follow:

- Go to WPML -> Theme and plugins localization, select Astra Theme(both parent and child), and scan
- Go to WPML -> String Translation
- Search for the strings added in the Header and Footer
- If the strings appear in the result, Add translation by clicking on the "+" icon.

If you're unable to find the strings in the list, please try the following.

- From the string translation, scroll down and click on the "Translate texts in admin screens »" link
- Search for the strings that you're trying to translate
- If they appear in the result, select them and click on the "Add to String Translation" button
- Then Go back to String Translation and translate the strings by clicking on the "+" icon.
- Clear the cache, and check the front end

3) Translating the Cookie Banner: From the WPML Debug Info, I can see that you're using the "GDPR Cookie Compliance" plugin by Moove Agency. This plugin is compatible with WPML and the cookie contents can be translated manually. To understand the process, please follow the instructions mentioned in their official documentation: hidden link

I hope the resources and information shared above will help to solve the problem. If you still need further assistance, feel free to let me know. I will be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hello Prosenjit,

Thank you for your quick answer, but I don’t understand the things to do you told me, for example the option string translation.
I did something but probably not right, it doesn’t work.

Please can you look after it in the backend!?

Here is a special login for you:

Hello Samy,
Thank you for the update.

As this is a public forum, please don't share any sensitive information related to your site in public messages. If we need such information, we will enable a private field for you so that you can securely share the access. I hope you can understand.

Since you have provided me with access, I've logged in and discovered that the account has been assigned only 'User' privileges. As a result, my access is limited, and I'm unable to view anything beyond the "Profile" section. Could you please upgrade the account to have 'Administrative' privileges so I can conduct a more thorough investigation?

However, since the String Translation process is not clear to you, please refer to the documentation provided below to understand the process.

If you're having trouble locating the strings, this documentation will guide you through the process: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/finding-strings-that-dont-appear-on-the-string-translation-page/

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

HELLO Proenjit,
I saw that there is still a problem. When I close the WordPress backend and delete the browser cache or use a private (save) browser window, then the translation suddenly stops working. E.g. the button at the top right “Book an appointment” is not translated when you go to the English page. The same is with the footer.

What is wrong?

Kind regards,
samy

Hi,

another problem is: I cannot choose the language dropdown function although I set it in WPML as you can see in the screenshot. The flags are displayed either all next to each other or all at the same time, but not as a dropdown.

regrads,
Samy

Hello Samy,

I'm glad to hear that the explanation was helpful.

Since you've mentioned that the English version of homepage is still showing the button and footer untranslated, I checked as per your instructions(private browser) and found that the English translation of the Button and Footer is showing perfectly. Please check this screenshot[ hidden link ] for a better understanding.

It appears that a part of the footer ('Kontakt') has not been translated, causing it to remain in German even when other languages are selected. To resolve this, please ensure that the entire footer is translated. After completing the translation, clear the caches of both the website and the browser. Once this is done, the elements should display correctly in English when accessed from an English language.

Regarding the issue with the language switcher- From the screenshot, I can see that you've configured the Widget language switcher but on the site, you've used the Astra Language switcher element to display the language switcher. In order to customize it, you need to enable the Custom Language Switcher option available within the Language Setting and make further customization there. Here are the steps to follow.

- Please go to "WPML > Languages" and scroll down to the "Custom Language Switcher"
- Enable the Option and click on the "Customize" button
- Once the customizer loads up, enable Dropdown from there and save the changes.

I hope it will help. Please let me know if you need further assistance in this matter. I will be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hello Prosenjit,

yes thanks, to clear the caches of both the website and the browser was helpful!

But I always have the problem with the language dropdown function.
This, that you have told me, I have done:

"- Please go to "WPML > Languages" and scroll down to the "Custom Language Switcher"
- Enable the Option and click on the "Customize" button
- Once the customizer loads up, enable Dropdown from there and save the changes."

As you can see in the screenshot, I don't have the "Dropdown" option to choose from in the Customizer, neither under "General" nor under "Design". I do not know what I'm doing wrong!

Regards,
Samy

Hello Samy,
I hope you're doing well. Sorry for the delay in responding due to the weekend.

Thank you so much for patiently following the instructions. It appears that the "Language Switcher" module of Astra does not have the support for dropdown, which is why, it is not working as you're expecting. If you want to display the languages in the Dropdown, please consider adding the language switcher using Shortcode and customize it from "WPML > Languages > Custom Language Switcher → Customize". Here are the steps to follow.

- Please copy this Shortcode: [wpml_language_switcher]
- Go to "Appearance > Customizer > Header Builder" and add an HTML element in the Header.
- Paste the Shortcode within the HTML Element and Publish the changes.
- Now go to "WPML > Languages > Custom Language Switcher" and click on the "Customize" button.
- Make the customization for the language switcher as per your needs.

I hope it will help. Please let me know if you need further assistance in this matter. I will be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit
