[Resolved] Translation resets when you update the site
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
Cannot translate WP Rental options in Theme Options > General > Listing and owners
When trying to translate from String Translation it does not works.
Solution:
Translate the Options in Theme Options > General > Listing and owners which are the Post type and Taxonomy slugs from WPML -> Settings -> Post type Translation and Taxonomies Translation. Click on the "Set different slugs in different languages for.." to translate the slug as explained in the document linked next.
Can you please try the following and see if it helps:
- Go to WPML -> String Translation
- Search for the strings that have the issue of being reset when site is updated. Select those strings and delete them.
- Go to WPML -> Theme and Plugins localization. Select your theme and plugins and scan the.
- Go to WPML ->String Translation again , search for the strings with issue that were deleted previously and translate them again.
If the issue persists, I would need to take a closer look at your site. So I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP), preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.
Your next answer will be private, which means only you and I have access to it. Please share the temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) along with the exact steps/process to replicate/see the issue on the site.
IMPORTANT: Please take a complete backup of the site to avoid data loss.
It looks like due to the way translation are stored in WPRentals the setting option expects the options to be in English.
I did the following and this seem to fix the issue:
- Edited the field labels to be in English at Theme Options > General > Listing Labels
- Went to String Translation and translated those English Labels to Russian instead.
Now when I edit or change the Favicon setting the translation seem to work/say fine. Please check it from your end and verify.
Thank you, I have another question related to the reset. I can't change the values in Theme Options > General > Listing and owners list because they reset. I thought this was due to the fact that WPML stores translated strings. How to remove them?
Thank you for the updates and sorry for the delayed response here.
I see the issue as well with the Listing and Owners link indeed. However this should not be caused due to the fact that WPML String translation stores or translated these values.
This seems to be a interference or compatibility case when you use custom links.
To verify I setup a test site for you which you can login to using the next link:

Can you please login to the site, setup WPML on the site ( a test key will be provided during the setup ) then install WPRentals and set it up with as minimal data and options as possible so as to only try to replicate the same issue there and see if the issue can be replicated there?
This will help us verify if this is a general issue or is an isolated issue in your site only and help us troubleshoot the issue further.
I created a support ticket for the Wprental theme and sent them a link to this topic because I can't install the theme without the test key for the WPrental theme
Please also ask the WPrental theme team if they can help you with the test key to setup the sandbox site to troubleshoot the issue.
Also since you are in contact with them now it is also a good idea to ask them if the issue is something they have stumbled upon before or if they could provide more insight to the issue that could help us troubleshoot the issue faster.
I will wait for your update regarding the insight and the sandbox site setup for further troubleshooting.
Hi, I reproduced the bug on a test domain. The custom link for the property category page is displayed incorrectly and reset. You can change this link to Theme Options > General > Listing and owners list

Please note we try to handle only one issue per ticket so as to better keep track of issues so lets focus on the original issue reported in this ticket and after that is solved we can look into0 other issues or open a new ticket for new issues.
The sandbox site hidden link seems to be an exact clone of your site. Please note Sandbox is not meant to be cloned/imported from your original site. But instead setup fresh as I asked for in my previous reply linked next so that we can verify if the issue can be replicated on a clean site or not.
I setup the new sandbox site with WPRental theme and plugin and I was not able to replicate the issue. Or probably I am missing some step in the setup.
- Can you please check the new sandbox site further and let me know if you can replicate the original issue here? If yes, please let me know the exact steps along with URLs to see the issue.
- Also, in your previous reply you said "created a support ticket for the WPRental theme" were the WPRental team able to see the issue and provide insight on it?
Hello, to reproduce the issue you need to import a demo called Iceland. The problem is in this demo theme WPrental. After you need to translate the strings "year" and "bed" from listings. After changing the favicon and the translations will be reset

Also, open a new issue ticket from the last post please
I now see anomaly in saving the General -> Listing and Owner Links after importing the Iceland demo in the sandbox site. I have escalated the issue to our second tier team now for further troubleshooting. I will send you an update here as soon as I receive an update from the team.
We looked into the issue further but it looks like since those URLs/Options are not available to translate by default in WPML -> String Translation and needs to be registered from WPML -> String Translation -> Translate texts in admin screens » they are not meant to be translated.
Can you please contact the WPRental theme provider since they maintain the compatibility of the theme with WPML and ask them if those Options / URLs are meant to be translated and if yes how?
We can look into the issue further after we get more insight from the theme provider.
